Are you jealous?
Melissa
Three empty bottles of beer lay in a scattered pattern on the counter, but I wasn’t even started. Dexter had caused me to break my no-drinking rule.
Even when I left him for two years, I never harbored the thought of dabbling in alcohol. Finally, I’d broken my rule and I felt like a bag of shit.
Why didn’t he call me beforehand to tell me that she was around? I would have stayed back at my father’s and spent more time with him.
But like the fool that I was, I headed straight to his house because I wanted to share the good news with someone who didn’t deserve to be in my life.
I thought he didn’t love her. Heck! He even took their daughter away from her because he was scared that she would influence Lilly with her bad manners, so why would she be in his house, dressed like they were having their honeymoon?
I ordered two extra bottles of beer, and leaned on the bar counter, my heart clenching with pain. The bartender served me the drinks, his eyes filled with pity for me but I sneered at him with a scary scowl on my face.
He should learn to mind his business.
“Hello, beautiful. What are you doing all alone?” A baritone voice cut into my drinking spree, and then he took the seat beside me, wearing a grin.
“How’s that your business?” I spat and rolled my eyes.
I took a swig from the bottle and slammed it on the counter, gripping the bottle’s neck so hard I thought it would crack.Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
“That’s a lot of grip you have on the bottle, lady.” He adjusted uncomfortably on his chair, his face tight with nervousness.
My lips curled into a grim smirk. “And that’s how I’m going to wriggle your neck if you don’t get the hell out of my face!” He flinched and I smiled inwardly, happy at his frightened reaction.
He hid his fear with a fake undaunted mask. “You can’t do anything, woman. You are almost drunk.”
“Tsk, Tsk, Tsk,” I massaged my aching forehead. “Like you said, I’m almost drunk but if you need proof, I can show you right now.”
He opened his mouth to respond, but the words never made it out of his lips as he slowly slid off the chair and scoffed. “Slut.” He muttered in disappointment
I felt a quick movement behind me, and then the next thing I saw was Dexter throwing a punch at the strange man. He landed on the ground with a loud thud and I quickly placed myself between them to salvage the situation.
“You’d better leave before my boyfriend beats you silly.” He didn’t need to be told twice as he scampered away, holding his broken chin. I sent a glare to Dexter who was still scowling at the man and folded my hands. “And what are you doing here? Isn’t your girlfriend good enough to keep you company?”
In a fleeting second, the scowl he wore disappeared and he gazed at me tenderly. The calmness in my chest was disrupted and my heart gradually began to melt.
Where went the anger that burned within me like an inferno some minutes ago?
“I’m sorry.” He rasped.
“The fuck you are! What was she doing in your house, looking like a trophy wife who has successfully gotten the most eligible bachelor in the country?” I yelled and he chuckled.
“Sweetness,” My innards tingled, “The last time I remembered, I was married even though that marriage would be dissolved once I found Lorraine, which would take me off the eligible bachelor’s list. But there’s something that I find intriguing, do you want to know what that is?”
“Yes,” I replied sharply.
“It’s the fact that you are jealous.”
My cheeks went up in flames as I lowered my lashes. The conversation wasn’t going the way I wanted. Trust Dexter to steer it in his direction.
“What do you mean I’m jealous? I’m not.” I patted my hair and pouted my lips while wondering why I couldn’t keep my emotions in check. “I was only surprised to find her in your house, nothing more.”
He closed the distance between us, using his thumb to jut my chin up. “Surprised, huh? Your actions showed that you were more than surprised. You were furious, livid and ready to set the house ablaze, but thank goodness you chose the safer option and left. So tell me, were all those reactions related to just surprise or will you admit that you were jealous?”
I kept mute, knowing that he had caught me by the tail. I spun around to walk away, unable to bear the heat he exuded, but his arm quickly found my waist and pulled me back to him.
“You won’t run away from me, princess. Not now, not ever!” The seriousness in his voice couldn’t be mistaken, but I still had to make things hard for him.
“That’s your business.”
He dropped to his knees, holding onto me while my eyes darted around the bar which was filled with people encouraging Dexter to continue, the ladies asking me to forgive him.
“What are you doing?” I asked, my jaw clenched in embarrassment.
“I’ll only get up if you forgive me.” He pestered on.
The clicks coming from the cameras resonated and it would only be a matter of time before we started trending again on the internet, and I didn’t want to trend for the wrong reasons.
“Get up, please.”
“Have you forgiven me?” He probed, batting his lashes at me in a childish manner.
I threw a glance around and sighed in disappointment. The customers still had their attention fixed on us. “Please, get up, I’ve forgiven you already. Just save me from this embarrassment.” I pleaded desperately and hissed when I saw the hidden smirk at the corner of his lips. “You are having fun with this, aren’t you?”
He finally got to his feet and leaned closer to me. “This is going to be more fun.”
I didn’t understand what he was referring to until his lips locked with mine, my refusal was shoved aside as I found myself melting into the hot kiss he initiated.
