Annoying Emilia
Dexter
Liam struggled to get off my grip but he couldn’t as I made sure that my grip on his shirt didn’t slacken.
“You thought you could run away from me after all the havoc you wrecked, right?” I snarled, glaring daggers at him.
I still couldn’t believe that he was right in front of me after searching for him for so long. Later I’d ask him what relationship he had with Emilia that made him come over to her house, but that would be after the police had picked him up.
“Let go of me, Dexter. It’s not what you think.” He pleaded, his eyes blazing with so much fear when he realized that I wasn’t joking around.
“What makes you think that I’ll let you off the hook that easily, huh? And while we are at it, you’d better call your accomplice because the both of you are going to rot in prison.” I threatened and a visible shudder surged through him. “Call the cops!” I said to Emilia who scurried around in search of her phone.
“I don’t know where Blake is and I came here because Emilia asked me to. I’m not a thief, I swear. She knows me!” He cried.
His last statement got to me and he used it to his advantage as I freed him. “What do you mean by that? You’ve never met her before.” I argued.
I took slow steps backward and stopped by the door. If he thought that I’d let him off the hook easily just because I was trying to process what he said about Emilia, then he was joking.
Emilia returned to the living room with her phone in her hands, her eyes darting to Liam who glared at her.
Why did I feel like Liam was telling the truth?
I turned to Emilia who averted her gaze from him and stared at me. Her expression was quite unsettled, and even though she tried to act calm, I could see through the facade that she wanted to be anywhere but here.
Silence reigned in the room, but I was also itching to know the truth. If they knew each other then it wouldn’t be for a good reason at all.
“I’m going to ask you a question, Emilia and I hope that you answer truthfully,” I said, my voice as cold as ice. She swallowed nervously and nodded. “Do you know this man and do you have any relationship with him?”
Her face went pale, and her spine stiffened. Every one of her reactions pointed to the fact that she knew him.
“I… I… don’t,” She dragged in air and cleared her throat. “I don’t know who he is. Like I said, he was a thief and he tried to attack me after you left, but thank God you came back on time to save me from him.” Her voice wasn’t so confident for someone who was saying the truth, but I overlooked it.
Several options lay on my table on how I was going to extract the truth from her. What mattered now was having Liam arrested for what he did to Lorraine.
Coincidentally, a siren wailed loudly outside Emilia’s apartment, and then a knock followed. I quickly checked who it was and a shit-eating grin appeared on my face.
“It’s about time,” I snickered and ushered the cops in.
A few minutes later, they were dragging Liam out of her house while he kept pleading to be listened to. I’d never listened to him because he didn’t after making a video of Lorraine and me having sex, he also didn’t listen when he tried to have sex with her twice together with Blake.
I couldn’t wait to lay my hands on that one.
“You can go back in, he won’t disturb you anymore,” I assured Emilia and veered off to my car.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
“Dexter!” I heard behind me and halted in my tracks.
“What do you want?” My tone was as sharp as a whip since I didn’t want to talk to her.
She looked back at the house, a cloud of fear covering her face. “I don’t want to be alone. I’m scared.”
I sighed, knowing what she wanted. “So what do you want me to do? Take you to my house? You know that I don’t want you there.” I replied harshly, but that didn’t stop her from coming close to me.
She placed her hand on my shoulder which I shrugged off. “Even though you can barely tolerate my presence, can’t you help me because of our child? I’m really scared right now and I’m sure you don’t want anything bad to happen to your baby’s mother.”
I ruffled my hair with a sigh of resignation while thinking of what to tell Melissa. I didn’t want her to be jealous and I didn’t want both women to meet each other, not in my house.
The both of them acted like they had an existing beef between themselves, especially Melissa.
“Hop in. Lilly is alone with the nanny.”
*********
I watched Emilia play with Lilly after she settled down. But one thing I realized was that there was no connection between the both of them.
Emilia’s actions towards our daughter looked fake, and it irked me to know that Lilly might never experience the true love of a mother.
Then I remembered how Melissa adored Lilly, and it wasn’t because of my influence. It was because she truly loved her.
My thoughts were disrupted by a knock on the door and before I could get to it, Melissa had already let herself in with a huge grin on her lips. I hurried towards her and blocked her view.
“The meeting went well, Dexter. Thank you for encouraging me to visit him.” She wrapped her arms around me and buried her face on my neck.
Due to our difference in heights, she had yet to notice that someone else was around.
She pulled away and scanned my face with a puzzled expression. “You seem like you don’t want me to be here. Did anything happen when I left? Did I do anything wrong-”
Trust Emilia to butt in at the wrong time. “No, you didn’t do anything, darling. It just happens that I’m around and he has to give me all the attention.”
Melissa gasped and pointed at her with disbelief in her eyes. “Is this why you felt stiff when I announced the good news to you?”
For the first time in a while, my brain couldn’t produce a statement to my defense and even if it did, I wouldn’t be able to say anything because my tongue was tied.
“No… Mel, it’s not… what you think.” I managed to say but she raised her hands sharply, retracing her steps.
“I made a big mistake by coming here. Thank you for everything, Dexter.” She let herself out of the door and raced to her car.
“Of course you did. Good riddance to bad rubbish.” Emilia shouted after her and it took me all my self-will not to hit her.
I spun around, jerking her roughly. “I’m leaving now to find that woman, and by the time I return, you should be out of here or I’ll throw you out.” I hollered, picked up the car keys and went after Melissa.
