Chapter 55
Chapter 55
Actually, it had been ages since she’d had a bowl of tomato soup. This was probably the first one she’d
had since moving abroad.
Nobody knew her taste in food, so she’d long become accustomed to making do.
[Mission start.] Chowing down on her meal with one hand, she shot a message to King’s butler with the
other. [Get ready.]
Brian had just finished tucking Nate Into bed after his bath and came out to find Natalie’s fingers
dancing across her laptop keyboard at lightning speed. The screen was angled away from him, its light
reflecting off her face.
Minutes later, Natalie snapped the laptop shut and got up to clear the dishes.
He stood in the doorway, watching her turn and head to the kitchen.
After a few seconds, he walked over to Natalie’s laptop, flipped it open, and took a peek.
He knew her password, a string of complex numbers. Sure enough, the laptop sprung to life.
What he saw was the game page she hadn’t logged out of.
At the top of the page, a banner scrolled, “BackOffMyBabe‘, Congratulations to you on a five–game
winning streak!”
“Boss, you’re invincible!!!” The comments section was awash with cheers.
She was still into these computer games just like she had been for years. Back when she didn’t have
her laptop, she’d always curl up in his armchair, sneakily playing games on his desktop, cracking every
new password he set.
Eventually, Brian got used to it and an unspoken rule was established in the house. No one but her
could enter his study. This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
Brian reached out, hit the escape key, and exited the game. The desktop was immaculate, adorned
with just a few game shortcuts.
He glanced at it, then, out of some mixture of concern and curiosity, he relaunched the game.
Reid had said Natalie seemed off.
Given Natalie’s knack for IT, Brian couldn’t help but wonder about her. But her computer was clean,
nothing out of the ordinary.
The hacker who lived on the sixth floor was a more likely suspect.
The moment he closed the laptop, Natalie was standing at the kitchen doorway, holding a plate of
neatly sliced fruit.
“Fancy some fruit?” Natalie asked him calmly, as if it didn’t bother her in the slightest that he’d touched
her laptop.
11:25
While Brian was in the shower, Natalie switched to her FireWing account and messaged the client who
had offered her a job with a hefty starting bonus.
[Here’s your deposit back. My boss is not in the condition to proceed) she texted.
A second later, she heard Brian’s phone buzz from the bathroom next door.
She glanced at his silhouette behind the frosted glass as he picked up his phone.
Then she deleted the client’s contact and switched back to her main account. Shoving the phone under
her pillow, she lay down to sleep.
Natalie had thought it was just a coincidence, perhaps some PR manager under him reaching out for
negotiations, But now, it was clear that the persistent client had been Brian all along.
When she was approached by Bright Peak Energy, she had no idea the WL Group was owned by
Brian. The offer was lucrative, so she accepted without hesitation.
The speed with which she had taken the job equaled her regret now.
With eyes closed, she turned her back to the bathroom, listening as Brian finished his shower and
returned to the bedroom.
She deliberately slept on the side of the bed near the window, leaving Nate in the middle and half a
bed’s space for Brian. But if he chose to sleep on the couch, she wouldn’t mind. The blanket was at the
head of the bed.
She listened to him rustle open the blanket and lie down on the other side, then heard him. switch off
the light.
After a moment of relief in the dark, she began to drift off to sleep.
Suddenly, she felt the bed shift slightly. Brian’s hand wrapped around her waist, his palm burning hot.
