Wife by Day, Boss by Night

Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Davis had a soft spot for Gracia because she had once saved his life in a dire moment. His gratitude

ran deep, paving the way for his fondness toward her. When there were idle gossips about Gracia

becoming the future Mrs. Howard, Davis also never bothered to refute it.

But his preference for Gracia didn’t mean his toleration to the Wright family. It seemed Samuel never

quite grasped that concept.

The audacity of Samuel to pocket the ten million dollars intended for Natalie was staggering.

Brian’s question came coolly, but Samuel practically fumbled his phone in panic.

How on earth did Brian know about the missing ten million? Did Natalie spill the beans? Impossible!

She didn’t even know about the money since he and Lydia had sneakily invested it in the company.

“You’ve got ten more seconds,” Brian’s voice drifted calmly through the phone.

“I’m sorry, Brian! I was out of my mind back then. It’s all my fault! Please, let me make it right. I’ll get the

money right away,” Samuel’s voice was so shaky that it was almost indecipherable, but Brian

understood all too well.

So Natalie had been struggling all these years, not even changing her computer for five years. It made

sense.

“Unless Davis asks for Gracia, nobody from the Wright family is to step foot in the Howard family

starting today.” Brian said softly. “Anyone who pleads to Davis will face the

consequences.”

After hanging up, he placed the freshly rinsed vegetables on a plate and ended the call.

“Look into the Wright family’s financial problems. Extract fifty million dollars and transfer it to Natalie’s

account,” he instructed Reid in a low tone.

“Understood,” came the reply.

Natalie listened from the living room, taking in every word. Her eyes followed the tall figure moving in

the kitchen, her emotions a tangled mess.

Brian hadn’t abandoned Natalie after all but had cared for her in his own way. He was not completely

indifferent as she once misunderstood. Instead, he had sent her money. But his resentment was so

deep that even when she insisted on seeing him the year she left, he refused.

But it was too late. Had he become aware of the truth earlier, maybe their son wouldn’t have died in her

womb.

She often woke from nightmares with the image of her unborn child’s disfigured face haunting her. It

was a child who would have been named Zephyr and was just over a month away from being born.

“Natalie…” Nate suddenly put down his piece of cake, climbed onto her lap, and looked up into

her eyes.

“What’s up?” she asked, gently pinching his chubby cheek.

Nate rested his chin in her palm, his face plump and doughy, irresistibly adorable.

Brian finished with the kitchen preparation and glanced into the living room.

Natalie was tenderly touching her forehead to Nate’s, checking his temperature. Despite feeling poorly,

Nate still managed to playfully peck her on the nose.

She couldn’t help but laugh. As she turned to speak to Brian, she noticed he was already watching

them. The words died in her throat.

Brian wiped his hands and approached them, asking softly, “What’s wrong?”

After a pause, Natalie answered, “He says he feels nauseous. and I think his fever is coming back.” NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.

It was rare for her to witness such tenderness in Brian’s eyes. He truly loved Nate.

If Nate was Madelyn’s son, Brian must have loved Madelyn deeply too.

Brian took Nate from her arms, checked his forehead, and said, “It’s alright. He’s always been

frail, often feverish since birth…”

His words trailed off, unfinished.
