When the Boss’ Lady Became His Sister-in-law

Chapter 52

York was freaking out and panicking as he looked at Rhett, who usually had the business world wrapped around his finger and cut through it like a hot knife through butter. Why the heck was he losing his marbles over a kid?

As long as the FitzGerald Group held firm, the Turner family’s project was delayed yet another. day. If they failed to wrap it up by the contract deadline, they would have to cough up a hefty penalty fee. Each day delayed meant more dough out the window, which would be a serious cash here.

Rheft couldn’t care less about the development of the Turner family. Since the FitzGerald family and the Turner family were tied by marriage, people might get the wrong idea that Rhett’s got it out for Vincent.

Family feuds were already a ticking time bomb for the FitzGerald Group, which could easily land Rhett in hot water.

“Mr. FitzGerald…” York, risking getting kicked to the curb, couldn’t keep it bottled up anymore. “You seem to have a soft spot for Kristin and her kid, which is kinda out of character for you…

York was being as subtle as a sledgehammer here.

Rhett couldn’t be bothered to spell it out. “Sometimes, whether it’s people or situations, you gotta look beyond the surface to see what’s really going on.”

York was stumped, not quite catching Rhett’s drift, but Rhett’s actions always had some reason behind their madness.

A career–driven guy like Rhett wouldn’t easily fall for any dame and he wouldn’t put the screws on the Turner family for Summer’s sake unless… the Turner family had stepped on Rhett’s toes, and Summer

was just the match that lit the fuse.

With a nod, York exited the office.

Vincent and Clarence had been thick as thieves lately, even teaming up on a project without Rhett’s thumbs–up. What got York’s goat was Vincent and Clarence going behind Rhett’s back and making cozy with Mr. Bryce from Aurora Tech, clearly looking to pull a fast one without Rhett in the loop.

So, Rhett shaking up the Turner family was to take the chance to teach the Turner family and Vincent a lesson they wouldn’t forget.

At the FitzGerald family.

“Dad, you’re finally back. I don’t know what got into Rhett. He is suddenly giving the Turner family a hard time.” Vincent, seething but trying not to step out of line in front of Holcomb.

Holcomb furrowed his brow and glanced at Clarence, asking, “What did you guys do to tick off Rhett?”

Holcomb knew Rhett well enough to know he wouldn’t go to war without a good reason. Rhett was always one to mind his business first and foremost.

“It’s all because of that bitch Kristin. Vincent darkened his face, having had people on the lookout for Kristin for three days with not a peep!

She had the gall to go into hiding and better hope to high heaven to avoid our search.

“Kristin?” Holcomb asked, puzzled.

“Clarence stirred up trouble with Kristin, and somehow she pulled some dirty trick to get Rhett. to back her up.” Vincent grimaced, knowing full well Rhett wouldn’t take on the Turner family

over a woman.

But he couldn’t let Holcomb catch wind of his and Clarence’s shady dealings with Mr. Bryce and their other little schemes.

Holcomb huffed. “Without the straight dope, I can’t help you.”

Holcomb was crystal clear that Rhett wouldn’t pick a fight with the Turner family over just any skirt, especially not one like Kristin.

Clearly, Vincent and Clarence weren’t telling the whole truth, and Kristin was just an excuse for Rhett to make his move.

Vincent paused, giving Clarence a nervous look.

Clarence, realizing the jig was up, spoke softly. “Truth be told, Vincent and I got involved in a project together. We’ve had some dealings with Mr..Bryce from Aurora Tech and a few other partners. Maybe Rhett misunderstood… and thought we were going behind his back.”

Holcomb turned to stone, fixing Vincent with a stern look. “Getting too big for your britches, eh? Don’t want to play by Rhett’s rules?”

“It’s not like that… Dad, I’ve got my chops. I can’t shine under his wing and just want to prove myself to you.” Vincent was getting desperate. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.

Why should he always be outshone by Rhett?

Rhett was holding him back and Vincent was scared he’d one day take his spot.

Holcomb pointed a warning finger at Vincent. “Next month, there’s a gala in Crescendo Town held by the Chamber of Commerce. You two better go and clear things up with Rhett about your dealings with

James! After you get back, I’ll see what I can do.”

Clarence was on edge. “Our company’s project can’t be put on hold that long.”

“Then go beg Rhett now to see if he’ll budge,” Holcomb snorted.

Neither Clarence nor Vincent said another word.

Who was Rhett? His word was law. If begging him was worth a dime, would they have gone behind his back to deal with James?

Vincent turned even more sour. Why did Rhett always have to lord over everyone?

Casting a meaningful glance at Clarence, Vincent had a plan brewing. He had to throw some shade Rhett’s way to smear his reputation a bit.

When James hit up Crescendo Town this time, he’s totally gonna drag Rhett to some nightclubs. The moment Rhett got caught up in some scandal with a sketchy lady, it’s gonna be a real smear on his reputation.

At the Nightlight Club of Crescendo Town.
