Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Chapter 21: Nikolai
It hadn’t even been a full day since I had forced Mary to remain at my side, and she was already moaning, groaning and complaining about it.
“You snore in your sleep.” She whined at me as soon as we woke up the next morning. I called her a bed hog and advised I did not enjoy sharing the comfort of my bed with her. She then went off on a tangent about our sleep being interrupted by one anotber to try and get out of sleeping in my room. I couldn’t believe the audacity of her, any other women in this palace would be swooning at the chance to sleep in my bed.
At this moment, I was impatiently waiting outside the bathroom, for Mary to get dressed.(This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com) I had a meeting with the high council today about a spree of killings that bordered the Werewolf and Fairy
territories, and she was taking an abundant amount of time to get ready.
“Mary,” I growled out, finally losing my patience with her, “If you’re not out here within the next minute I will come in there and drag you out.”
Mary mumbled something under her breath, that I couldn’t quiet catch, but I thought I had heard something about a big ole’ grumpy vampire, as she unlocked the door and came walking out. She looked stunning, her appearance looking more like a Queen than a blood slave. She was wearing a form fitting navy dress that stopped just above her knees, the sleeves were long and tight along her arms. Her hair she’d brushed throughly, and left down, her long red curls bouncing freely. She’d paired the dress with a pair of white ankle boots, which matched the loose white belt she’d used to accessorize the dress. I tried to hide my smile at the sight of her, she was obviously enjoying the wardrobe Nevaeh had picked out for her.
“Are you just going to stand there gawking at me or are we going to head towards your “important” meeting.” She said making fake quotation marks at the word important.
I looked into her eyes, glaring at her. “I wasn’t gawking at you, I was just making sure you looked suitable to be in the presence of the council?”
She did a little spin for me, obviously knowing the effect her body had on me, “And do I pass?” She asked.
“Yes,” I said nodding my head slowly, “You look like quite the snack.” I smiled letting my fangs down for effect.
:
She gasped out loud before storming to the door. I grabbed her arm and spun her around. “Listen closely, Moé Aparohjeshbé, I expect you to be silent throughout the council meeting, do not speak unless spoke to and I have given you permission to talk.”
Mary started to interrupt me, but I tightened my grip on her arm, letting her know I was being serious.
“If you talk out of turn, if you’re disobedient, or defiant in anyway, you’ll be locked in the dungeons by the council, and even my sway will not be able to get you out.”
“Oh,” Mary said tauntingly, “Even a king doesn’t have full control.”
I shook my head at her, convinced she’d be the reason I finally broke and my beast took control, however my beast seemed to like her spunk, as he purred every time she challenged my authority.
“Come on,” I said to Mary, placing her hand into mine as I led her out of my room. She tried to pull her hand away from mine, but I wasn’t going to allow it. I enjoyed the way her warm, soft, feminine hand felt in mine. She eventually rolled her eyes and gave up trying to free herself from my grasp.
The council chambers weren’t far from my chamber so our silent walk to them wasn’t as awkward as I had imagined it would be. (This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com)I had expected Mary to throw witty remarks my way, but instead she walked
held down, as if she was thinking or contemplating over something. I chalked it up to nerves over meeting the high council and continued to the council chambers. Once we reached the door, I stopped right outside it, and pulled Mary into a tight embrace, my beast having grown anxious during our walks began to calm at her nearness. “Please behave,” I whispered in her ear before letting her go. She looked at me with a shocked expression in her eyes, but didn’t say anything more, as I opened the council chambers and let her into the room.
“Councilors,” I greeted them as I walked into the room.
“King Nikolai,” They murmured, standing on their feet at my presence.
“Err.. your majesty, do you think a council session is the appropriate place for this…” Councilor Markus trailed off gesturing to Mary, unsure of what he should call her.
“This is Mary, she is my new blood slave, and I have command that she be with me at all times should I find the urge to feed. Mary shall be respected by all, and any hatred or animosity shown towards her, will result in a month long sentence in the dungeons with only a cup of blood a day for vampires, or a slice of toast and a glass of water a day for any other supernatural or human.” I responded to Council Markus, letting my aura flare in the room. Everyone in the room took a step away from me, that is
everyone except Mary, she looked up at my face, confusion in her eyes.
“But.. your highness.” Council Markus spoke showing his outrage. “A blood slave should not hear the plannings of the council, there is always a chance that they may escape or relay the message of what’s happening to our enemy.”
I flashed a glare towards Markus, losing my patience with his insubordination and the mere mention of Mary leaving made my beast want to lash out.
“Are you questioning the judgement of your King, the strongest super natural being in the world, the man who brought peace to all the supernaturals?” I asked my aura focusing solely on Markus now.
“N..n..no your highness, I didn’t mean for it to sound 1..like I was questioning your jud..judgement, I just wanted to keep the palace and everyone inside the palace safe.” Markus stammered at me, I watched as the other councilors seemed to agree with his statement.
“Mary stays,” I growl, taking a seat at the head of the table, dragging Mary into my lap.(This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com) She lets out a startled gasp but doesn’t question my actions, I think I managed to put some fear in her regarding the high council. “Now let’s get down to business about the killing spree that’s happening between the
Fae and Werewolf pack-lands.” Mary’s head perks up a little as she takes entrance in the subject matter at hand.
“There have been ten new deaths on the border.” Christoff, the Fae councilman tells me.
are
“That brings the total to fifty now.” Drisella, the werewolf councilor stated.
“The killer has doubled their amount of weekly kills. Do you think it’s a hunter?” Another one of the councilors question, causing a gasp to sound throughout the room.
I rub my chin, pondering the question, we haven’t had to deal with a hunter in quiet some time, but it’s always possible a group could have popped up.
“What type of beings were killed?” I ask, not bothering to look through the file that was placed in front of me, I’ll go over the field reports after the meeting, I liked to the look them over when I knew I wouldn’t have any interruptions.
“Fifteen fae, five wolves, three witches, two dragons, and twenty five humans.” Markus responded listing off the figures.
“Of those twenty five humans, how many were mates to a supernatural being?” I asked trying to narrow down if we were in fact dealing with a hunter. Mary looks over at me questioningly but doesn’t interrupt.
“Twenty of them.” Markus replies. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
“From the evidence we have currently, I don’t think it’s hunters. Hunters won’t usually kill an unmated human. We need to find out if the five humans who were unmated had the same injuries as the other forty five bodies or if were dealing with multiple murders.
The other council members nodded their head in approval.
“Should we send a team out there to investigate?“ Markus asks before the meeting ends.
“No I’ll go out there myself. I want to see if there’s any reminisce of power leftover from the murders.”
“When will you leave?” Mary asks me, finally speaking up.
The councilors all give her a look, like what right does she have to question me, but instead of chastising her I answer her question. “I’ll be leaving tomorrow night, and I should be back before daybreak.”
Mary seemed to be considering something before she finally asks me another question, the one I knew
she’d been worrying about. “Will you be taking me with you?”
“No.” I responded quickly, my beast angering at the thought of placing her in the path of a killer. “I’ll be leaving you with Kade.”
Mary nodded letting out a sigh of relief, not saying anything more.
“Are there ant other matters we are needing to discuss?” I ask my councilors, eager to leave the
chamber.
“There is the matter of your wife and heir.” Markus pipes up again, and I want to reach across the table and strangle him as I notice Mary stiffen in my lap.
“I’ve already informed you, that I will not be taking a wife nor will I be producing an heir.(This novel will be daily updtaed at www.noveljar.com)” I growled at Markus, quickly standing from my chair, causing Mary to fall off my lap. My hand quickly flew out and grabbed her waist, as I steadied her; not wanting her to fall.
“Come Mary,” I hissed at the woman by my side. “We’re leaving.” I grabbed Mary’s hand again and walk out the door.
“Wait your highness,” I can hear Markus calling out to me, “this is an important matter we must discuss.”
I chose to ignore him as I continued to walk down the hall.
“Do you want to go for a run?” I ask looking at Mary, wanting to get out of the palace.
“Umm I don’t really know if this is the outfit to run in.” Mary said looking down at her dress.
. “I’ll be running, you’ll be riding me.” I respond, a smile on my face, as I think of her riding me in a
different more sexual way, screaming my name in pleasure.
“Riding you?” Mary asks a questioningly look on her face. “I thought you were the vampire king. I didn’t know you could shift into a wolf as well.”
I barked out a loud laugh, unable to contain myself. “I am definitely not a mutt.” I respond to Mary, “I’m going to carry you on my back, while I run.”
“Oh okay,” Mary responds, contemplating my question, “and if I say no?”
“Then I’ll lock you in my room and run by myself, once I’m done, I’ll come back and let you out.”
Mary shudders at the idea of being trapped in my room by herself for so long. “Well let’s go for a run then.” She responds causing me to grin like an idiot as my beast perks up with excitement.
I hope you enjoyed todays chapter, I had some extra time to write so its a bit longer than normal. Let me know your tboughts on the novel so far. xoxo-Marriah
