Chapter 53
Chapter 53
Judy had no way to refute Adam's words.
Everyone in the Reid family knew that Clark was supposed to marry Jenna. However, she was the one who ended up marrying Clark instead that night.
"Wasn't that the case?" Sally butted in before Judy could form a reply. "You heard that someone was threatening your sister, saying that we're a den of wolves and that Clark is ugly, uncouth, and weird. So, you pretended to be a martyr and married him in her place instead..."
Judy's expression shifted. "I never mentioned that."
"Still denying everything?” Sally said.
But before she could continue, Adam stopped her. "Alright, there's no need to keep bringing up something that has already happened." Adam then gazed at Judy.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
He looked very much like Clark, and it sent chills down Judy's spine.
He said, “Since it was all a misunderstanding, then let's settle this like adults. No one should be forced into something they never wanted to be in in the first place. And besides. you and Clark are indeed not a good match.”
Judy's fingers curled as she stared at Adam in surprise.
"Hardly anyone knew of this marriage anyway. It's better to mitigate the damage to both our families as soon as possible. We shall compensate the Blakes, and this marriage will come to an end,” Adam said
Judy stared at everyone around her and could see them celebrating this awkward situation She had dreamed of leaving Clark and the Reids. But if she left like this. would Matthew let her go? Would Clark? Judy knew what the consequences would be if she did. So, with this weight hanging over her, she shook her head.
Adam's expression darkened. "You don't agree? Even your sister wasn't worthy of marrying into our family. Moreover, you're an illegitimate child too. To us, that's..."
The words “illegitimate child" echoed in Judy's head, and she nearly dug her nails into her palm "Grandpa," an icy voice called out, shattering the oppressing atmosphere. Judy whipped her head up and saw Clark step into the room. He emanated a frosty air as he made his presence known.
"You're here." Adam looked at him coolly. “Perfect. We were discussing your divorce.”
"Grandpa,’ Clark said as he glanced. at Judy. “Judy is my wife in every sense of the word. Marriage isnot something to be taken lightlysand I have never thought of divarcing her.”
‘Nonsense:“Adam $ expression darkenedvand his tone was heavy. “You were supposed to marry the other-daughter, but the Blakes swapped her out for this mute instead... ". ito <
But before Adam could finish, Clark cut him off. "I never said exactly which daughter I would marry." At these words, the room fell silent. Even Judy was shocked as she turned to look at Clark. "I wanted to marry the apple of the Blake family's eye. But I never said that it was Jenna."
Clark's answer further reinforced his previous words.
Adam was perplexed. "You're saying that you've wanted to marry Judy from the beginning?"
Clark remained silent, causing Sally to speak Up and say, "Clark, stop fooling around. How could your willingly marry a mute... " Content =~
“Aunt Sally, perhaps you don't quite understand me." Clark glanced at her, his frosty gaze enough to shut her up.
Clark had no intention of bringing Judy to see Adam, and he knew exactly who it was that planted the idea in Adam's head. Suddenly, the atmosphere turned tense.
Both Clark and Adam had tempers to match. So, upon seeing this, Adam's butler quickly stepped in
“Dinner is ready. Shall I serve the food then?"
