THE REMORSEFUL BILLIONAIRE

CHAPTER 15

Nathan’s POV

I knew I shouldn’t ask, but I asked anyways. I needed to clear my head and get over these feelings. It was gradually draining and eating me up. I still wondered how I managed to stay sane.

All the meetings and appointments I have attended to today were done them absentmindedly, and it was really affecting my performance. I needed to get to the truth and focus on other tasks at hand.

“If I get the truth, will it really put my life back on the track?” I thought. But at least it would clear my doubts.

“Mr. Nathan, please I don’t really want to talk about it. It’s a bad experience, an experience that almost shattered my life overnight but thank God for the twins. They gave my life meaning and purpose again and made me feel fulfilled”, she said as a tear escaped from her eye.

“I’m sorry”, was I could say. I didn’t really know how to console someone as I have never done that before.

“Please, leave, Mr. Nathan. I need to get back inside. The kids are waiting. Good night and thanks for today”, she said and went in immediately, even before I could say anything further.

What experience made her go cold immediately and even made her shed a tear? It must have been a really bad one that must have shattered her and caused her pain, I thought as I drive through the traffic.

“Watch where you are going, you asshole”, a taxi driver cursed.

“Shut up, you motherfucker” I fired back, even when I knew I was at fault as I almost hit his rear mirror.

I drove into the mansion, parked the car and got into the private elevator that led to my room. I wouldn’t like to see any of the chef or housekeepers.

I picked up my phone and put a call across to Jessie” Hi Jessie, do you know any private detective

“Yes I do, I will send you the number of the one I trusted the most”.

“Okay, thanks “, I said and hung up. I knew she must have sense the distress in my voice. She just choose to ignore. Jessie is the kind of person that don’t pry into one’s private life.

In less than a minutes, I received a message with the private detective number, I called him immediately.

“Hello, Mr. Abel, I need you to help me run a background check on someone, and I also need a sample for a paternity test”, I said authoritatively, with a sense of urgency.

“Okay, send the person details”, he said excitedly, as though he has been waiting for my call.

“How much do you charge, and how long will it take?”Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

The deal was finalized, and he said it was going to take a week, I told him I would pay double if he finished in three days. He agreed, and I made an upfront payment.

“A week, I won’t be able to survive it. I can still try to stay sane for three days”, I thought.

I took my shower, got into bed and fell asleep…

**************

THREE DAYS LATER

“Mr. Nathan, you have a parcel. Should I bring it now?” I heard Judith say over the phone.

“Please, do”, I replied.

I must confess that in just a week she started working here, we’ve gotten on pretty well. She is quite good at her job. She came in, and dropped the parcel.

After she left, I unsealed it and it was what I was expecting: the findings of the private detective. The report stated that she was dumped on her wedding day, had twins ten months later with an undisclosed man, and relocated. She currently in London.

The parcel also contained some hair strands, presumably from the twins.

“How did this private detective get these? They must broke into her home without her noticing. That house isn’t safe; it could have been other harmful people”, I thought.

“Meet me in my office now”, I called Dr. Fred, one of the best doctors in the hospital and also my friend. Although, I wouldn’t exactly call him my friend since we rarely see or discuss anything asides hospital matters.

Some minutes later, he came in after Judith announced his arrival, smiling and full of life. “How do people manage to smile every time? I can’t really understand” I thought as he approached me.

“Hey man, I thought you forgot me”, he joked

“Why would I? I said shaking his hand.

But truthfully, I had forgotten about him. I only remembered him now because I needed his help. He’s the only doctor I can trust to run the paternity test.

“I need you to run a paternity test for me and please be very discreet about it”, I said and handed him the sample.

“You got a child somewhere? He teased. “I will, don’t worry”.

“How long will it take?”

“I will get to work now, you should have it tomorrow”.

“Okay, thanks, buddy”, I said, giving him a side hug.

“I will handle all processes myself”, he said and left.

I called a popular car company and ordered a car to be delivered tomorrow morning for Judith. I was told that her car’s engine beyond repair.

I hope she takes the car without suspecting anything. I will just tell her its part of the workers benefit, her car is the oldest in the hospital; even the cleaner uses a better car than hers.

By tomorrow, all of my doubts will be cleared, and I will find a way forward. I have had a week of emotional torture, heartache and headaches.

The rest of the evening went well as I waited impatiently, with time ticking slower, prolonging my fate…
