MISTAKE 20
Chapter 20: Investigating a set up
Looking at the hurt look in Anya’s eyes, Daniel felt slightly uncomfortable. But her words. made him sneer slightly.
“Oh? You have forgotten so quickly? You wanted this marriage. My grandfather offered you a chance to be my wife and you took it, even when asked you to back off. You knew he could force me to marry you, but you did not mind. What happened? You suddenly regret it?” he asked.
This was the twenty–first century. Why should you marry someone just because your grandfather forced you? She had thought that since he had not rejected the marriage too much, he was not so adverse to her. He was a grown man and had decided to enter the marriage with her.
She had once thought that his lukewarm reaction meant she had a chance, but at this moment she felt like the most stupid person on the planet
“Yes, I regret it,” she said and his sneer faded quickly.
“Don’t worry. When this cruise is over, I will sign the divorce papers like we agreed,” she assured him and walked over to where her luggage was and started opening the complicated lock.
Daniel was slightly frozen in place. She regretted it? She regretted marrying him? Daniel felt a bitter taste in his mouth. He could not understand why he felt this way. This is what he wanted. He had ignored her, hoping that she would get tired and ask for a divorce. He got what he wanted, but why did he dislike it?
Anya ignored him and tried opening the suitcase She fiddled with the combination till she got it. Only then did she look back up his way with a frown.
“Is there something else you need?” she asked and he shook his head absentmindedly.
“Can
I please be left alone?” she asked and he nodded and left the room. He had completely forgotten that he had come over to scold her. He had not even realized that she had asked him out till he left the room and shut the door behind him. He stood there staring blankly for a while, till someone shook him out of his daze. He looked up to see his younger brother, Jason.
“What?” he asked, looking up abruptly.
“I was calling you, but you did not answer,” Jason said. Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
“I was…” Daniel’s words trailed off as he looked back at Anya’s cabin.
“Don’t get angry with your sister–in–law. Amanda should not have gone looking for trouble,” Jason said.
“But she should not have said what she did about your wife. That was uncalled for,” Daniel

insisted, suddenly recalling why he had come.
“You should not have scolded her like that. I would have scolded you to not defend my wife for me, if we all didn’t know you hate your wife. You are more prone to taking other people’s side, “Jason said and started leaving.
“What are you sprouting? When did I say I hated her?” Daniel asked and Jason paused and looked back.
“You are saying you love her?” he asked and Daniel became uncomfortable under his stare.
“Not love, but hate is an extreme word,” Daniel said.
“That is good then. For a second I thought you were those men that bully their wives because they like them.” Jason asked suspiciously, “You can’t be that childish, right? You are not in kindergarten where you pull the hair of the girl you like till she cries just so she would notice you,”
“That never happened,” Daniel countered abruptly.
“I am not saying it did. I…” Jason said and paused, “Young boys just coming into love do this, some do it in kindergarten, others in high school. They get jealous easily and fight with girls they like,” he said.
Daniel looked to be in deep thought which made Jason look at Daniel suspiciously, “You wouldn’t be doing this at your old age of thirty, right?”
“What are you saying? Why would I do this?” Daniel looked at his brother as though he had two heads. He was just too preoccupied by what Anya had said.
“Of course not. Just because Anya Loves you does not mean that she will like you forever if you! play such a game,” Jason said.
“She likes me?” Daniel asked with a slight scoff, “She likes my money and power.”
“I am starting to believe you are a child. You know you are the elder one in this relationship, right? You can’t possibly be this naive, right?” Jason said tiredly and started leaving. A lot of the family looked down on Anya, but there was one thing they all knew in their hearts. She
loved Daniel.
“Stop playing childish games or she will leave you one day,” He threw this statement at Daniel and walked away.
Daniel could not be bothered by his younger brother. He could not help but be disturbed by Anya’s words. She regretted marrying him? Why was he so bothered? Was it because she slightly resembled Selene? But his state did not last as someone’s words brought him back to reality.
“Such a kindergartner,” his mother appeared out of nowhere and threw these words at him. and hurried away. Daniel was speechless.
He could not get used to his mother’s drama loving nature. Of course she would be listening in at a time
ce this. It couldn’t be that she also believes Jason’s nonsense right?
Daniel sighed at her figure and looked back at the door to Anya’s cabin still closed shut. If Jason was right that she likes him, then he had little to worry about. It meant she would not cause trouble during the divorce about her inheritance. This thought calmed him as he walked
away.
Inside the room, Anya had pulled a document from her suitcase and opened it, as she read through, her eyes turned colder than the ice that tripped the Titanic.
If Anya wanted to describe her Lena, it would be as a spider. Anya did not know the rest of the Shaw family well enough, but she knew Lena.
There was something about the way she stayed absolutely unchanging in her corner of the room, nesting on her own web.
No matter how many times you clean the house, she would be back the next night to re–spint her web, nest and wait. If she was ever grateful for one thing when it came to Lena, was her consistency.
Even when situations changed and new plans better be made, she would return to her corner of the room, back to spin her webs and nest regardless. She only moved the way she knew and could not see past all she knew. She was the weak link in their ploy..
Anya looked down at the document in her hand. When Lena had handed it to her to keep when she opened her bank account, she had not looked through it to know what kind of document it was. If she had only opened it then, maybe she would not have been stupid all the way till today. Anya had brought with her the mails she had received from the bank all these years. She opened the brown envelope of mails to a stack of bank statements. All these were made in her
name.
This was actually her bank account. She had been convinced by Lena to open an account with her friend who was an accountant. How was it suddenly a joint account? For one year, I used this account as a mid transfer point. Money came in from nowhere and transferred out to some unknown accounts. She looked at the account manager’s information already and placed it in the same file almost as though someone was afraid that the investigators would not find it, and trembled.
This made Anya more sure Mary would be trying to arrest her today.
