The Alpha’s Little Luna

Challenging

Alpha Zane’s POV

Mercedes is sleeping peacefully in my arms like a contented kitten.

My mate is rapidly becoming an adult, she knows exactly what she wants and her Luna senses are starting to take over. Just like a few hours ago when we faced Kenry and Jace, two of my high rankings encountered crises in their matings. She managed to calm things down before I even stepped in as their Alpha. My mate is going to be the most perfect Luna, I can’t count down the months to her eighteenth fast enough. I want to mark her, take her to my packhouse and lock us in our bedroom for a whole week. I’m damn sure she won’t mind at all, as long as the cook regularly serves us lasagna.

Sleep can’t come for me.

Two serious cases have arisen within a short period of time. My Beta lost his mate after they started the mating process. He is now a wreck, out for several weeks, if not months. Mate issues are not easy to handle and in Jace’s case, totally problematic. He waited for her for years and according to his story, she first made love to him. They spent the night together and then she disappeared without an explanation. That’s so strange, what could be the reason for that? That is something that requires further investigation.

But the most striking thing was Kenry’s case.

In the past, he didn’t look too hard for his mate, he devoted his life entirely to our pack and Mercedes. As the Gamma, he adores my mate, ready to protect her with his life. And I had to watch him reject his mate just because she wasn’t a virgin anymore. But like any man, Kenry knows that a mate’s past cannot be a barrier to mate. Clarita was given to him by Selene and he is supposed to accept her as she is. It is her actions in the future that he should judge. And if I heard everything correctly, the girl has promised to make amends for him.

Look, I’m not a fan of Clarita myself.

What she has done to break up my relationship is unforgivable. Manipulating a video in which she was the lead actress just to discredit my mate is something only a psychopath does. Did she really think I would just let Mercedes go? Then she and her Alpha-fool must be born several times again! Mercedes is mine, I’m going to keep her, make her my queen and there’s no one to stop me. No sex video, no pictures of her with others, nothing!

The thought of Clarita being mated with Kenry and thus coming to live in my packhouse makes me shake with horror. Clarita is trouble, the only hope is that Kenry would indeed get her to change her attitude. But that would still turn out to be a gamble, Clarita is a master manipulator and would do quite a lot of damage before we could have enough evidence to throw her out. And if she were fully mated with Kenry at that point, then my Gamma would also be obliged to leave the pack. And that’s something I can’t imagine, Midnight Moon can’t perform without Kenry, he’s one of us.

So, I’m lukewarm about his decision to reject Clarita. It can be a blessing and a curse at the same time.

Not to mention that he hates Silver Moon like the plague. Kenry can’t wait for Mercedes to move to us to smash this pack to shreds. He has focused all combat training in our pack, from the pups to the experienced warriors, on destroying Silver Moon.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.

And then again, all three of us are high rankings from Midnight Moon.

And the Moon Goddess paired all three of us with she-wolves from Silver Moon. Is that a coincidence or intentional? Is Selene making a statement with this?

Kenry won’t let anything get in the way of his plans with Silver Moon, only I can stop him and so far, I haven’t done anything to slow him down. My Gamma is determined. But what had Selene thought he would do with Clarita? Or was this all aimed at Clarita, to hold up the mirror to her and experience rejection? In that case, Kenry will soon meet his second chance mate, Selene owes him that. Maybe I should worry less about Kenry and leave everything to our Moon Goddess to fix.

But Jace!

He will be out for a long time, my pack is now in the hands of the Gamma and Head Warrior. That is not a healthy situation. I have to go back. And it’s only midweek. Goodness, how can I leave my mate now? I’m not allowed to take her with me, she has to go to school. And according to the agreement with Alpha Ahri I can’t halt her education under any circumstances. And she’d already skipped school for two days.

I look again at her sleeping figure. My beautiful mate.

I won’t wait for her to wake up to say goodbye. She will make it pretty hard for me to go and I’m so weak towards her. I have to leave for Midnight Moon, to my duties. My pack, Beta and Gamma need me badly now.

Cautiously I remove myself from her arms. I take my sweater I had hung over a chair and place it under her face so she keeps inhaling my scent. When I have the rest of my clothes on, I kiss her on the forehead and tiptoe out of our bedroom. As I walk outside to my car, I text the florist. I quickly quote him the words I want on the card. ‘My only love, yours forever’. And then drive out of Silver Moon. Away from my mate.

It’s a two-hour ride that I take calmly. The events of the last hours wander in my head. I have to come up with solutions soon. Kenry is able to hold his own, Jace will be our main concern. If his mate doesn’t come back, we’ll have to figure out something to keep him mentally strong.

Trust me, these are the most challenging moments to be Alpha of a pack full of wolves….
