Chapter 29: Save the Day
Chapter 29: Save the Day
"Well, too many people will be cumbersome."
leaving these words, Yusef walks into the bathroom.
Macy thinks of these unfinished materials, feeling a little bit nervous. It seems that she has to make
haste.
There are only a few days left before going to South Sea City. While Macy quickly gets acquainted with
the secretary's work, she is also secretly learning about the South Sea project, being very busy.
After accompanying Yusef to the meeting, Macy immediately arranges his next itinerary to make sure
that nothing goes wrong, and then begins to sort out the documents sent.
On the surface, the secretary of the president is a relaxed job, but what it examines is a person's
specific actions in dealing with various things. She must be foolproof and circumspect, ensuring that it
does not cause any trouble for the leader, and be truly competent.
Yolanda always overwhelms her with her predecessor status. The assignments she gets are always
the most troublesome work, but she never complains and just accepts everything. Although it’s very
hard, she learns a lot in a short period of time.
Now Yusef goes out with Yolanda. Macy finishes the work and finally has some free time. As she just
wants to sit down and reads some materials, the phone on the table suddenly rings.
"Hello, this is the office of president."
"Hi, Miss Macy, this is Rose Ansel, the secretary of Mr. Rayburn. Mr. Rayburn has a meeting now and
needs a German translator. It happens that the company’s German translation department is on
vacation, we have no choice but to retrieve the company’s resume. I learn that German is your second
foreign language during college. Could you do me a favor?"
Macy’s hand holding the receiver tightens, "Definitely, but I need to ask Mr. Penn for instructions."
It's okay for her to help them, but if she leaves without authorization, it is very complex to explain
anything that has been delayed then.
"Don't worry, we will tell Mr. Penn this special situation."
"Sounds good." Macy hangs up the phone and asks other secretaries from the President's Office to
help her guard the phone so that they won’t miss any important notices. Before leaving, she still feels
worried, so she sends a text message to Yusef privately, and then walks to the office of Mr. Rayburn.
When she arrives, Mr. Rayburn is not there. However, his secretary Rose Ansel has been waiting for
her for a long time. As her name goes, Rose is a very calm and gentle woman. After seeing Macy,
Rose greets her kindly, and then takes her to the reception room.
Walking on the road, Rose quickly provides her a general introduction, "The people Mr. Rayburn meets
with today are some representatives from the German technology company. They have already
decided to pass the resolution, but these Germans want to show their sincerity, especially flying to City
Marea to discuss about the final pricing."
"Consequently, there will be a lot of complicated words such as technical terms and price terms later.
You have to translate carefully; otherwise, once there is an error, it might lead to a big trouble."
The expression of Rose is gentle, but she expresses the situation in a very serious tone. Macy also
knows that when it comes to price, it will be the critical juncture of the game, which is extremely
important.
Fortunately, she is confident about her German level. After all, she specialized in foreign languages in
college. In addition to Chinese and English, she is also proficient in a few minority languages.
Translating consultation stuffs should not be difficult for her.
In the reception room, Macy walks in with Rose, greeting Rayburn and the two German
representatives, and then sits behind Rayburn.
The negotiation is simple at the beginning. The two parties express their own ideas and read the
drafted contract. After they understand the size and standards in the heart of the other party, the
tensest part is reached.
The project, to be frank, is a technical exchange based on product transactions. The Penn’s wants to
develop some new products, which needs a certain technology from that German company. However,
paying is not enough. The other party wants to ensure its own interests and competitiveness, so they
ask the Penn’s to place an order with their company. They will only provide products containing the
core technology, instead of the core technology itself.
In order to make a breakthrough, the Penn’s temporarily agrees to use their core accessories to create
the new products, but without doubt, they have to raise the fixed cost. The German side promises when
they reach a certain number of orders, the Penn’s will be allowed to send some employees to Germany
for technical learning.
In order to obtain more places for technical learning, the Penn’s wants to fight for more benefits, so
they have to keep the price of core accessories as low as possible.
The two sides have discussed for a long time but fail to make a deal. Realizing that it is almost noon,
Rayburn asks for a delay. He looks at Macy and says coldly, “Tell them I’m hosting a banquet in a
nearby hotel. After they finish the meals and have a good rest, we will continue discussing it."
Macy understands, conveying his words to the German representatives.
Then Rose takes the German representatives to the nearby hotel. Macy checks the time and is hesitant
to ask Rayburn if she could leave. Before she speaks, Rayburn has already understood her intention,
"Miss Macy, you can't leave yet. If you leave, how should I communicate with the two representatives!"
Macy smiles and intends to refuse his request. After all, she is not a translator, but when she thinks that
Rayburn will not let her go easily, she just agrees.
Seeing Rayburn's working state at close range, Macy really has to admire that his capacity. He always
speaks appropriately takes a firm stand. After several rounds, he still doesn’t give up the price he
wants.
Moreover, she remembers that Yusef told Rayburn in the office last time to take a few more days off.
Just two days later, he has come back to work, which shows how strong his enterprise is.
Macy is stunned. Rayburn, who is walking in front of her, suddenly slows down, "I heard, you are
Earnest Downey’s daughter?"
Shocked, Macy looks at Rayburn.
He knows her father?
Macy takes a deep breath and answers softly, "Yes."
Rayburn glances at her but doesn’t speak immediately. After a few seconds, he replies leisurely, "It
seems that he has educated you well."
Macy gives him a questioning look, but the man continues his initial speed and walks forward.
Breathing deeply, she doesn’t ask anymore.
The real meaning of Rayburn's words is praise or criticism…She doesn’t figure it out.
As Rayburn arrives the restaurant reserved in advance, Macy continues to act as an interpreter, and
the meal goes on very pleasantly.
Rayburn also drinks a lot of wine. Considering that he needs a rest, Rose immediately books a room
and leads him to there. Before leaving, she hands Macy a document and asks her to take it to the
company.
After Rose and Rayburn leaves, the farewell to the German representative naturally becomes Macy’s
assignment.
Both German representatives are friendly. Before leaving, one of the men named Rolf asks Macy for
the final price list of the company’s products. “It’s a pleasure day. We are willing to respond to your
request to our headquarters, but we want to take a look at the pricing table of your products, so that we
can give as much discount as possible."
Macy hears that they agree to give the discount, feeling a little excited. Flipping through the document
in her hand, she really finds a pricing table in triplicate, respectively for China, Germany and Britain. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
It should be the document that Rose prepared in advance to show to the German representatives.
Macy doesn’t think too much, directly handing them the document in German.
Rolf takes the document. To express his gratitude, Rolf hugs Macy and leaves a soft kiss on her cheek.
Macy couldn't refuse, so she could just accept with a smile. She doesn’t notice that near the entrance
of the hotel lobby, Yusef is staring at them coldly.
