Chapter 396
Chapter 396
“Fine.” Winnie nodded and added half-jokingly, “But your father will despise me more if I let you face all my troubles. He’ll think of me as a vixen who has thoroughly beguiled his son.”
“And he’ll be absolutely right.” Xavier placed her on his lap and gazed at his beloved woman in adoration. “I’ll go to you at once whenever you beckon at me with your index finger. Even a vixen couldn’t manipulate me to that extent.”
“Oh?” In amusement, she stuck out her index finger and drew circles on his chest. “It seems you’ve experienced your fair share of vixens, haven’t you, Mr. Fairchild?”
“You’ve wronged me.” He tightened his arms around her as if to punish her. “Those vixens might have existed, but I’ve never taken them seriously because I can’t accept any other woman. I’ll have to discipline you if you dare to doubt me again.”
Winnie failed to wrap her mind around his words. “How do you plan on doing that?”
He shifted her hand toward his lower body and said, “What do you think?”
Winnie arched her brow when she touched his manhood. “In that case, you’re doomed. You’ll have to wear yourself out if you wish to discipline me.”
“Oh?” Xavier’s voice sounded hoarse as he was aroused. “Why don’t you elaborate further?”
She nudged him gently and replied, “We’ll discuss this in detail when we’re back. We’re still in Lucas’ car at the moment.”
While she spoke, she felt a hot sensation in her nostrils and started experiencing a nosebleed.
Knitting her brows, she lifted her head and cursed, “D*mn it. Hurry up and pass me some tissue.”
She had gotten off his lap as she uttered those words.
He immediately reached out to pull some tissues for her. However, the tissue box was empty after he took out one piece of tissue, which happened to be the last piece.
Evidently, that wasn’t sufficient for Winnie’s use. As a result, she could only tilt her head up and say to Xavier, “Can you help me purchase a packet of tissue? Pick up some wet wipes and a bottle of mineral water too.”
In truth, she had brought those things along with her, but she had used up all of them on the ship earlier.
“Okay. Wait for me. I’ll be back soon.” Even without her telling him to do so, he would’ve gone out to buy those items for her.
With that, he opened the car door and jogged away. C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
However, the parking lot was quite far away from the supermarket at the harbor, so Xavier would have to take some time to complete his shopping no matter what.
That was why Winnie was shocked when someone opened the door again.
Surprised, she asked, “How are you so quick to return?”
“Am I? I even took a detour to the restroom just now.” Unexpectedly, Lucas’ voice sounded outside the car.
He knitted his brows when he took in her appearance. “Why are you having another nosebleed? What is Xavier doing? How can he leave you alone inside the car? Where did he go?”
As he spoke, he reached out to pull some tissues from the tissue box.
Winnie spoke up when she heard his movements. “There’s no more tissue. Xavier went to the supermarket at the harbor to buy some for me. He didn’t ditch me here.”
“What?” Lucas stuck half his body into the car. After hearing her words, he hastily scanned his surroundings. “Are you saying that Xavier was with you the whole time and only just left the vehicle?”
“That’s right.” Winnie frowned in confusion. “What’s the matter? Why did you ask that question?”
Lucas creased his brows. “Are you sure?”
Winnie replied, “Obviously, I’m sure. I was still sitting on his lap a few minutes ago. How could that be fake?”
“All right then. I must’ve gotten the wrong person. I saw him at the harbor when I returned to the ship approximately ten minutes ago. I was surprised to see him there at that time and wondered if he was there to find me. I called out to him, but he ignored me as if he hadn’t seen me. That’s why I opened the car’s passenger side door when I came back—I wanted to check whether he was in the vehicle. If that’s the case, I must’ve made a mistake.”
“That goes without saying. You were undoubtedly mistaken. In my opinion, even though you only have mild myopia, you should still wear a pair of glasses. It may have been fine for you to misrecognize someone today, but the consequences would be dire if you blundered the decimal points on an agreement one day.”
Lucas glanced at Winnie. “Pfft! Are you that eager to see me make a fool of myself? I’ll never screw up an agreement, even if I hug the wrong woman as my girlfriend. Can’t you mind your critical language while your nose is bleeding?” Having said that, he couldn’t help but add, “I can still see clearly when I squint. I swear that man resembles Xavier. They’re almost identical, and that man also wore a black outfit.”
“Perhaps they look alike to a certain extent.” Winnie didn’t take that matter seriously. “Do you still remember that university roommate of yours? Others always referred to you two as twins.”
“That was because those foreigners suffered from face blindness and couldn’t distinguish between us Aplothians. Besides, do you think his demeanor could match up with mine? There’s a stark contrast between our vibes, and I’m confident I’m superior to him.”
Rendered speechless, she couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes. “I don’t suppose I’m suffering from face blindness too. I think you two were indeed quite similar in appearances.”
Lucas was stumped. He parted his lips and uttered, “Forget it. A gentleman will never argue with a woman. Your husband is back. He’s running pretty speedily.”
With that, Lucas moved toward the driver’s seat, stepping aside to make way for Xavier.
A few seconds later, Xavier hastened into the car, took out the items inside the plastic bag one by one, and handed them to Winnie.
After noticing Winnie was almost done cleaning up her bloody nose, Lucas turned around and asked Xavier, “Mr. Fairchild, do you have a twin brother?”
Xavier frowned. “No. Why?”
“What about a brother from a different father or mother?”
Xavier’s face darkened instantaneously.
Winnie tossed a balled-up tissue at Lucas. “What’s wrong with you? You should just shut up if you aren’t adept at conversing with others.”
“Okay. I’m sorry.” Lucas made the gesture of zipping up his mouth as he spoke.
Winnie was worried Xavier might be infuriated, so she explained, “He’s insensitive, but he bears no ill will. He inquired those questions because he mentioned seeing someone who looked identical to you at the harbor just now. However, I reckon he must’ve made a mistake since he’s myopic.”
Xavier grunted in response. Then, he shot a stern look at Lucas via the rearview mirror.
Coincidentally, Lucas was also checking them out. After meeting Xavier’s eyes for one second, he guiltily averted his gaze at once.
Xavier swiftly held back his hostile aura and asked Winnie tenderly, “Are you tired? If you are, you can lie down on my lap.”
“That’s not needed. I’ll be fine after resting for a short while.” She closed her eyes as she spoke and leaned against his shoulder.
Listening to her steady breathing, Xavier could finally relax his furrowed brows.
As he held her hands tightly, he thought, I can only rest assured when she’s with me.
