Chapter 37
~REX’S POV~
I got back into my car and started driving home. When I got home, I decided to go into the throne room and think for a while. I’m trying to ignore the tears I’m shedding because of Juno. I know she is crying. My goal is to avoid making a blunder. I’m aware that if I see her, I will react irrationally. Right now, the best course of action is to avoid her. What is it about her that makes her cry all the time? Is she pining for her mate?
It’s difficult to leave her alone while she’s crying, but I have to avoid her today. I’m trying to avoid saying anything I’ll regret. I entered the throne chamber. I ascended to my throne and sat down. I dozed off while relaxing.
I awoke some hours later. I am taken aback by what has just occurred. I’ve never dozed off on a throne. I have never experienced this in my life. I clench my knuckles at the prospect of sleeping on the throne.
“Rex?”
“Can you tell me what you want, Alaric?”
“To reason with you. I lulled you to sleep. You were not thinking clearly at the time.”
“What exactly do you want to talk about with Alaric? Are you convinced she is our mate?”
“I don’t think I know so. I knew she was close the day I returned, and I knew she was broken. When we lost her, I advised you to begin reigning from above, but you were adamant about remaining on earth. Your mother has been privy to all information pertaining to our Reina. We could have avoided a lot of things if you had listened to me. We could have seen her sooner and saved her from whatever ordeal she was enduring. Don’t you think by blaming Reina you are being an ass? You are accountable. She never asked for any of this, and she never will. What part of being raped is anyone’s fault?”
“Alaric put an end to your rambling!”
“Did the man you met today state that she slept with that Alex guy willingly? From the beginning, the man raped and tortured her, and you’re beginning to believe Reina is not our mate? You asked for some of these things, Rex. We could have avoided this if we had removed your mother from the throne above. However, you desired to remain with her in order to fuck anything you encountered while waiting for her. Can you even keep track of the number of ladies you’ve slept with since we lost her? You handled her death poorly. This is someone for whom you have waited decades, and you wish to reject her due to rape. Don’t you, Rex, think you’re being too harsh on our mate here? She was raped and became pregnant as a result. Did she ask any of it? Rape! Not willingly, Rex. She had been raped. Is it still your intention to let her go?”
“How do you wish for me to act, Alaric?”
“I want you to stop acting like an adolescent boy and grow into a man. There are forces that we are unaware of. In the first place, Reina was not supposed to be pregnant by anybody else other than herself and us. Someone is playing games with her in order to get to us. They subjected our mate to torment. She was exploited. I’m not sure what’s going on here, but Reina’s pregnancy bothers me, even though I considered it carefully. She was never meant to be pregnant by anyone. It is impossible for her to become pregnant unless your mother or Zeus did something. These are the only two individuals who have the ability to influence her destiny. The primary suspect is Zeus. Your mum is also not a saint. However, someone altered her fate. They never desired that she meet us. They wanted us to remain mateless for as long as possible. Nevertheless, who? If you reject her and send her away, you are fulfilling their wishes. How is it possible for a lycan goddess to become pregnant by a simple wolf? Consider your actions carefully, Rex, before you make a mistake. If you recall, Juno is afraid of men, and once again, vividly remembers the note she handed to us at our first meeting. “No rape, kill me,” she pleaded. Everything will become clearer as we assist Juno in discovering who she truly is. Is she the one who altered her own fate, or is it your mother or Zeus?”
“What is it about my mother that you despise so much, Alaric?”
“I am not opposed to the moon goddess. When it comes to Juno, she is anything from straightforward. She declined to inform you of Juno’s whereabouts. She witnessed her anguish. However, she took no action. She stood by and watched a fellow goddess suffer. Then she approaches us and informs us that we shall meet her, though she will be broken. Do you believe your mother could not have intervened to save our mate, even if she desired to? I’m aware I warned you not to delve into her thoughts. However, your behavior has begun to terrify me. You’re already leaping to conclusions, Rex. I was willing to wait for her to tell us what had happened to her, but waiting was no longer an option at this point. Waiting only adds to the confusion. Take a look at her mind and decide for yourself. Then you will be able to make your own choice. I will not prevent you. However, after witnessing everything she has endured, you owe her an apology for even believing she is not our Reina. And you owe her an apology for not listening to me when I advised you to remove your mother and take complete control. If you had listened to me, none of this would have happened. At the same time she was suffering, you were fucking around. You are responsible, not her. Now, put yourself in her shoes. It bothers me since this will erode her trust in us, but you’re beginning to act like an asshat.”
Alaric might be right. How can a Lycan goddess be pregnant by a wolf? Did Juno alter her own fate? Alternatively, it may be my mother or my twin brother.
“My Lord, we did everything we could, but Reina has been grieving since you left the palace today.”
The man had fallen into a profound trance, and what his second in command said jolted him awake.
“My lord!” says Marcus.
“You are free to leave. I will take care of her.”

I exited the royal room and entered my chamber. I opened the door and stood there, completely absorbed by her. She was sobbing again as she examined the tattoo. “Wait a minute, the tattoo is for a young child, not her lover.” Could it be her child’s?
Once again, I waited and observed. My Reina has an unmistakable fragrance. She was stunningly lovely. How am I to relinquish control of myself? Giving up on her is giving up on my very self. My heart flutters exclusively for the woman in front of me. I’m aware that I doubted her frequently, but I’m unable to let go of myself. She is me and I am her. She is solely mine. She cast a glance my way and rushed over to me. She caught me completely off guard and held me tightly.
“How come you’re crying?” She made a shaky motion with her head.
“It’s now or never, Rex,” Alaric muttered something.
