Chapter 1176

Vera asked, “How did you know? It was one of the maids. She was cleaning the stairs when she accidentally fell. They rushed her to the hospital, but after two days, she didn’t make it.”

She sighed after speaking.

Moira Townsend had worked for Denton for over 20 years. To have such a tragic end was something she hadn’t expected. They had compensated Moira’s family, and that was how the matter was resolved.

After hearing this, Skylar didn’t say much. Instead, she went to see Denton. He lay in bed, his face pale and exhausted.

When he saw Skylar, he gave her a glance, but there was no spark of life in his eyes. His long- term insomnia, constant nightmares, and growing irritability had drained him of energy. With age, it only became worse, leaving him completely depleted.

After exchanging just a few words with Skylar, he was too exhausted to continue and soon closed his eyes to rest again.

Skylar then walked through the entire villa, checking the antiques Denton had collected. Nothing seemed out of place. She had an idea but wasn’t certain yet. “Let’s visit your uncle’s house next,” Skylar suggested.

Vera quickly responded, “Sure, my uncle and his family are waiting at home.”

As they were about to leave the villa, Skylar’s gaze suddenly shifted to a maid, Ursula

Fairbank, who was mopping the floor nearby.

Ursula appeared to be in her early 20s, with a slightly plump figure and an average face. She was the kind of person who wouldn’t leave much of an impression at first glance.

“What is it?” Vera asked in a low voice, noticing Skylar had stopped to look at Ursula. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.

Skylar said, “The necklace she’s wearing–I want to take a closer look.”

Vera paused for a moment, then walked over to Ursula. She said, “Let me see your necklace.”

Ursula, who had been busy mopping the floor, suddenly froze. Her face turned pale as she quickly responded, “It’s just an ordinary emerald pendant. If you like it, I can send you the link where I bought it online.‘

To be honest, this kind of plain, low–quality necklace wasn’t Vera’s taste. Luxury items never appeared on online shopping platforms.

She smiled and said, “Just send me the link later. But for now, let me have a look.”

If Skylar hadn’t wanted to see the necklace, Vera wouldn’t have insisted on seeing a maid’s necklace. But Skylar always had her reasons, and Vera trusted her.

Ursula bit her lip, clearly hesitant to comply. But in the end, she reluctantly took off the necklace and handed it over.

Vera brought the necklace back to Skylar. As Skylar accepted it, she noticed the nervous tension in Ursula’s expression, something she couldn’t quite hide.

Skylar’s expression darkened as she studied the pendant.

Vera was confused. “What’s going on?” she thought, noticing the shift in Skylar’s mood.

Skylar approached Ursula, holding the necklace up. “Did you buy this necklace, or was it a gift from someone?”

Ursula’s eyes darted away

from Skylar. “I… I bought it. Can I have it back now? I’m just used to wearing it, and when it’s not on me, I feel… uneasy.”

“Sure,” Skylar replied calmly.

Ursula quickly took the necklace back and immediately put it on, as if she was afraid that

Skylar and Vera would confiscate it or not return it at all.
