Chapter 105 Extremely Uneasy
Chapter 105 Extremely Uneasy
After Irene left the hospital, she immediately returned to the Cook family. She packed her luggage and
went straight to the airport. Edric must be dreaming if he thought that she would be obedient and
submit to him!
She gave in the previous night merely for the sperms. If it weren't for Eden, she would not even pretend
to follow his instruction and sign that stupid contract.
In the past few years with Edric, she had learned a lot about him. He could have an affair with another
lady just to have a child. But, he would never be shameless enough to announce the affair.
She had been back for some time and she missed Eden very much. Although Nathan would report to
her about Eden's condition every day, and she also got to talk to Eden every day, she still missed him
dearly.
Irene decided to go see Eden and hide from Edric for a few days. She would return to San Fetillo
during her ovulation period. If she could get pregnant at that time, she would leave immediately.
Edric drove to the Cook family in the evening. When Lily saw that he came to visit her, she was
extremely happy. It was raining cats and dogs the previous night. She only caught a glimpse of the car
that sent Irene home. It was very similar to Edric's car, but she could not see the license plate and the
driver clearly.
She called Loraine out of suspicion and was told that Edric had not returned home. When she saw the
red marks on Irene's neck in the morning, she presumed that Irene and Edric must have slept
together. This realization made her feel extremely uneasy.
When she saw that Edric came to the door with a gift, she blamed herself for overthinking it. If Edric
and Irene were together, he would have known about Irene's flight in the afternoon. How would he
appear at the door now?
Lily took the gift from Edric with a smile. She invited him to sit down and made tea for him. At that time,
Deborah and Steven had just returned home.
After they greeted each other, they sat down and chatted. Maisy came over to ask if they would like to
have dinner. Steven looked at the time and asked, "Why isn't Irene back yet?"
"Irene has gone abroad!" Maisy responded.
"She went abroad?" Steven was stunned. "Was there any urgent matter for her to attend to?"
"I don't know. Irene said that she would stay abroad for a period of time," Maisy responded and went to
prepare dinner. Edric, who was on the sofa, did not have any change in expression on his face, but his
heart was instantly enshrouded by restlessness.
He went to the Cook family that evening not to see Lily, but to look for Irene. He thought that he could
find a chance to talk to her and to threaten her, but he did not expect that Irene would leave.
Maisy's dishes tasted splendid, but Edric had no appetite. After dinner, he sat in the living room for a
while before he stood up and left.
While driving, he could not help thinking about Irene. His heart was in turbulence. He had to admit that
Irene was no longer the innocent, kind, and lovely Irene she was before.
It seemed that he had to spend a lot of time and energy to get hold of her. He called John to investigate
what Irene was doing abroad.
John brought news to Edric that Irene went abroad to see Eden. John also updated Edric that Eden
was previously thrown into a stinky ditch of the hospital and ended up having a high fever. Later, Eden
was diagnosed with leukemia.
Edric was dumbstruck. That lovely child was diagnosed with leukemia? How could God be so cruel?
"Miss Nelson sent the child to a foreign country for treatment. She is currently looking for a matching
bone marrow donor."
Since Eden was sick, why didn't she stay abroad to take care of him? What was she thinking of
returning to San Fetillo?
She left the sick child with Nathan and went back to live with the Cook family every day. What on earth
did she plan to do? Wasn't she aware that Eden needed her presence and love the most now that he
was sick?
Was it because she was short of money? He recalled what she said in the Cook family that day. She
stated that she could not afford such an expensive fruit. Was it because she did not have much
money? It must be so.
John looked at Edric's morose, somber face. "Mr. Myers, you should not have treated Miss Nelson that
way. Previously, she went to look for Madam Margaret for a reason. Madam Margaret once instructed
someone to abduct her son in the park and threatened her to leave. On that day, someone sent her a
note, therefore..."
So that was the reason Irene came to look for Margaret. Well, Edric was aware of that, hence he
restrained himself when Irene hit Margaret during their heated argument.
"You should not have gotten engaged to Miss Cook so early!" John knew that Edric's heart only had
room for Irene thus far.
Edric did not reply to John. His engagement with Lily was unrelated to the quarrel between Irene and
Margaret but was because Irene had said that she would never go back to him again. She said she
despised him. Besides, Lily could not conceive and with that in mind, he found her rather pitiful. Well,
since he could not be together with Irene, he ended up making this decision.
Edric's eyes darkened. "Have you found out the identity of the person who abducted the child?"
"No, the hospital's surveillance video was blurry, and the man wore a mask, therefore his face was not
apparent at all," John replied.
That was a premeditated act! Except for Margaret who wanted Irene to disappear, who else would want
her gone?
"It's definitely not Madam Margaret's order. I checked her call records and could not find any clues that
she was linked to the incident," added John.
Edric believed that it was not Margaret who took Eden away from the hospital. Although Margaret could
be quite unreasonable and snobbish, she would not do such a vicious thing of throwing a child into the
ditch.
That was to say, someone deliberately took Eden away and framed Margaret. This person who took
the child must be an insider. At present, there were only a few people in San Fetillo who knew about
Irene's relationship with him. Edric's eyes were now smoldering with an unreadable emotion.
The first person he suspected was Lily and Deborah, and the second was Joanne. At that time, Joanne
had no association with Jordan at all, therefore she would not target Irene. This left Lily and Deborah.
He controlled his emotions and instructed, "Go and investigate what Lily and Deborah were up to these
past few days."
John nodded and left.
After Edric learned that Eden had leukemia, he could not calm himself to report for work. Eden's lovely
face appeared in front of him, and his heart seemed to be crushed by a heavy boulder. Restlessness
haunted his every single cell.
He remembered that Irene had called him late at night a few nights ago. She said that if he was not
engaged to Lily, she would consider being together with him again.
He rejected her ruthlessly. After that, she called him again several times. He suspected that she had
other intentions, therefore he refused to answer her call and turned off the phone.
He had always thought that she called him so to request him to cancel the engagement as a way to
take revenge on Lily. He now realized that his judgment might have been wrong. At that time, she had
taken Eden overseas for treatment. That meant that when she was in her most helpless state. She was
reaching out to him for help.
Edric's heart pained for her. If Irene was indeed in despair and came to ask him for help, how hurt
would she have been when he rejected her so ruthlessly like that?
When Edric returned home, Margaret was playing cards with several wealthy ladies. Seeing that he
had returned home early, she stopped the game and went upstairs to ask him with concern, "Edric, why
are you home so early?"
Edric looked at Margaret angrily. "Mom, I have something to ask you. Are you behind the incident of
Irene's son being thrown into the ditch?"
"It's not me!" Margaret denied it.
"Are you telling me the truth?" Edric was agitated. Although he did not believe that Margaret would do
such a crazy thing, he was still worried.
If John's investigation was wrong and if it was really done by Margaret, Irene would definitely not
forgive him for the rest of his life.
"I really did not do it, Edric. I don't have to go so far because of Irene. I threatened her because I did
not want her to have anything to do with you. Furthermore, I am also a single mother. I know how
important a child's life is to a mother. How could I do such a crazy thing as to throw a child into a NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
ditch?"
Margaret's words made Edric sigh in relief. He was glad that Margaret was not behind the incident.
"Why do you look so pale? What happened?" Margaret asked tentatively.
"Nothing. I just feel sorry for the child. He had lost his father at such a young age..." Edric stood up and
swore, "I must find out which heartless person threw such a young child into a foul ditch!"
Loraine brought him a cup of tea, and her expression suddenly changed.
When Deborah arrived home, her phone rang. After Deborah picked it up, Loraine's nervous voice
came over the line. "Mrs. Cook, bad news. Mr. Myers wants to investigate Eden's abduction."
"What?" Deborah was stunned.
"Just now, he came home to ask Mrs. Myers if it was she who threw the child into the ditch. After Mrs.
Myers denied it, he insisted on investigating the case. I'm a little scared. What if Mr. Myers finds out the
truth?"
"Don't worry, he will not be able to find it out," Deborah comforted Loraine. She had already made
detailed arrangements on the matter, therefore Edric would not be able to uncover it no matter how
hard he tried.
But Loraine had ample reason to be worried. It was her son who threw Eden into the ditch. It would be
terrible if Edric found out about it.
Deborah knew what Loraine was worried about. "Calm down. I've already made arrangements to cover
this matter up. He won't be able to find out anything. You can rest assured."
After Deborah hung up, she frowned. That incident had happened so long ago. Why did Edric suddenly
want to investigate it?
Fortunately, she handled it with extreme care and had not used any outsiders. Instead, she asked
Loraine's son to carry it out. Loraine's son was Steven's driver. Even if Edric were to investigate this
matter, he would never suspect the people around Steven.
Eden's condition improved tremendously after the treatment. When Irene arrived, Nathan was
accompanying Eden for a walk in the garden. When they saw Irene, they were pleasantly surprised.
Eden threw himself into Irene's arms. "Mommy, I'm a brave boy. I did not cry after the injection."
Irene held Eden in her arms and kissed him repeatedly. "My darling son, you're so brave!"
Nathan looked at her sunken face and knew that she must have been under a lot of pressure during
that period of time. "Irene, you don't have to worry about Eden. The doctor said that Eden's condition is
not too bad. We still have time."
"How can I not be worried?" Irene picked Eden up and went inside. She was his mother and they
shared an unbreakable bond. After all, Eden was her flesh and blood. At such a young age, he had to
endure the torment of such an illness. How could she not stay put and sit idly? She even hoped to be
the one who was ill instead of Eden.
Irene's arrival made Eden very happy. The room was echoing with laughter. Irene had forgotten all her
fatigue; she played building blocks with Eden. Nathan joined in as well. The three of them sat on the
carpet and had a whale of a time. Suddenly, Nathan's phone rang. He picked it up and heard Joanne's
voice. "Nathan, Grandma asked you to come home for dinner tonight."
"I'm not free," Nathan answered while he reached out to place the blocks.
Joanne turned on the loudspeaker mode on her phone. Britney heard Nathan's answer and gestured
for Joanne to continue to persuade him. Suddenly, Britney and Joanne heard a childish voice from the
receiver end. "Nathan, this is for you."
Eden picked up a block and handed it to Nathan. Then, he pointed to a building block that Irene had
placed. "Mommy, this is wrong. It should be here."
"You're so smart!" Irene praised Eden.
Britney heard Irene's voice from the receiver, her face fell instantly.
