Chapter 100
ELAINA'S POV
White hot agony burst into my ribs. The pain I felt was burning. It came in waves. Little by little, then it consumed me completely.
Getting rejected by the Alpha was not surprising one bit. If I had not gotten a rejection from him, I would have been shocked. I mean, I am me.
Elaina.
A was only a poor maid. A nobody. I don't even belong to this pack. They were just kind enough to employ me as one of the Alpha's mansion maids. I'm an orphan and I am weak. What more was I expecting from the Alpha? I was unfit to be his Luna after all.
I was sitting on the railing of the balcony and I looked down. I liked what I was feeling. Sitting this high gave me a feeling of being more than I already was.
'What if you fall?' Seraphina whispered, unpleased by the position I was in. She could barely talk now. She was as weak as I was. The Alpha's rejection had done numbers on her.
Seraphina's question was valid. What if I fell? I looked down. This mansion was at least six hundred meters high and I was on the highest floor. In my condition, if I fell, it was death straight. I was afraid of dying, but to be sincere, at the moment, I could not just care less. Was my life even worth living?
I looked down again.
"Elaina." Someone called my name. I flinched and lost balance and before I knew what was happening, I was no longer sitting on the railing. I slipped, but before I touched the ground, someone grabbed my hand.
I looked up at who it was and I froze. Alpha Atlas.
He was here and he saved me. His voice made me fall, but at least, he was here to catch me.
"What are you doing?" I asked. Why was he even here? This place was meant for lowly staff of this place like me. "Stopping you from dying in my mansion. What were you thinking?" He glared at me and I glared back at him.
He was an Alpha, alright, but, what right did he have to get angry at me when he almost killed me? Like rejecting was not enough. "What do you mean? I almost fell because of you. Why are you scolding me? I should be the one scolding you." He cocked an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
He loosened his grip on my hand and I screamed. I held the railing with my other hand to stop myself from falling. "What on earth are you thinking?"
"You wanted to fall, didn't you?"
I glared at him. "With the condition you put me into, if I fall, I would be a goner. Why on earth will I want to die?"
"So, why did you jump?"
"No, I did not. You scared me and I almost fell."

"Are you calling your Alpha-aliar?" Alpha Atlas looked pissed.
"Just help me up. Please. If I remain here, I will fall." The position was uncomfortable and too dangerous. I could say something that would piss him off and make him drop me. So, I had to leave this position.
"I won't," He said bitterly. "I was the one who made you fall, right? Why should someone who wants you to fall save you?"
"Please, just help me up," I pleaded and he raised his head up, turned his back at me and began to walk away.
"Alpha Atlas," I screamed. If he left me here, I was done for. I groaned in pain. My hands were killing me.
He paid no heed to me and continued walking until he was out of sight.
Hot tears sprung from my eyes. I looked down at the depth. One slip and I would go back to my maker.
The annoying thing of everything was that I would never get justice for my death. People like me die every day and nobody bats an eyelash.
I tried climbing up, but my efforts were futile and if I continued, I would only end up falling, so I stopped trying and hung on until my hand could no longer grab the railing.
I closed my eyes as my grip on the railing weakened by the second.
I began to count. In no time, I would fall, so I began a countdown to my fall.
One
My hands shifted on the railing.
Two.
Another shift.
Three. Another one.
Four
In less than ten seconds I was falling. It was quite certain. The only thing that could save me was a miracle.
Five.
One of my hands slipped off. I was hanging on one hand now.
Six.
A finger slipped off.
Seven.
Another finger.
I cried out loud, hoping that someone would hear and be kind enough to come save me.
Eight.
The third finger.
Nine. All my fingers were off the railing.
Sal,
I heard that when one is about to die, every single moment of his or her life flashes. I was beginning to see those flashes.
Most of them were memories I never knew I had and they were dark. Every single one of them. It made me wish I could stop myself from falling and continue living so I could find out where these memories were coming from. I knew little about my past. My childhood memories were lacking and though I planned to forget about them and live in the present, the interest to find more about myself sparked.
Then, I felt a grip around my wrist. I was dragged up back into the balcony and I heaved a sigh of relief. More tears flowed from my eyes. They were tears of joy and relief. I was grateful for the chance to live again.
I looked up at the person who saved me.
It was Alpha Atlas and my heart skipped a beat.
He came back?NôvelDrama.Org content.
He said he was not saving me, right? Alphas kept to their words, so, why was he here?
"Thank you," I said and without replying, he turned to leave.
"Why did
you
come back?" I asked and he froze. Slowly, he turned to look at me.
