Chapter 49
“Let’s just focus on our date,” Elise called with a tight-lip smile. Kaide had tried to get her to talk about what was bothering her, but she brushed it off with a smile.
They walked down the bridge leading to the park’s town, and Elise focused on letting her nerves po she still had a tinge of apprehension as to how the pack would react to seeing her. She knew it was Rygan’s orders for hot to be hated or treated differently because of who she was, but he was here as she felt nervous about it.
They reached the town a few minutes later. Elise was as anxious as she could be, especially since Alvira had managed to turn most of the pack against her to dislike her. She wondered how they’d react if they saw her now,
But the first touch of Kaide’s hand encouraged her not to be afraid of them, so they went to different shops, tasting delicacies that Elise had never seen before since the Silver Night Market never traded outside the pack.
Especially because Tazmins helped with the relationships of some humans who traded with them, from marshmallows to hard candies and other exotic sweets. The sellers were as polite as they could be in this situation.
Especially since their beta, Kaide, was with her, they dared not talk to her rudely or treat her any differently. Even though some of them stared in awe or fear of her, Elise was already used to the staring-
A little girl even pointed out the white curled pattern streak in her hair, but the mother then scolded her not to stare or point. But Elise was kind enough not to take offense to it. She was a former member of another pack, or worse, the infamous Silver Night Pack, and they were bound to be careful around her.
After they walked around the main square shop, he tried to make jokes to make Elise laugh as they walked on a lower trail after strolling past the bridge. Elise was confused as to why they made it here.
“Um, where are we going?” She asks Kaide, who hadn’t once let her hand go, as she leads her along the narrow trail.
“I figured I’d surprise you, but it would seem weird taking you to a place where you haven’t been before, we are going to my cabin, a place I stay when I want to be away from my family’s compound, a place just for me,” he explains
It wasn’t long till they reached the end of the trail, and Elise was in awe of the stone-lined cabin ahead. It was beautiful, with its dark wood in contrast to the stone hedge and neatly cut grass weaved accross the tree covered yard.
“This is so beautiful,” Elise muttered. Kaide smiled in return for her compliments as she led her to the massive front porch. then pushed the large wooden oak doors as they walked into the foyer.
A beautiful contrast of red and black infused all the designs of the house; it was a perfect place to hide when he wanted to rest, or maybe have his rut.
His familiar scent of pine and coal was a complete contrast to Rygan’s bedarwood scent.
“Come with me,” he tells her as he holds her hand out. “Do you trust me? Close your eyes, he tells her. Elise couldn’t help but giggle, but she closed her eyes and followed the beta’s lead.© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
He lets go when they reach the spot of the destination; she hears the push of another door before he walks back over to her and says, “Open them now, and she does.
A gasp filled with awe left Elise’s lips. It was the dining room, but decorated for two with candlelights, flower decorations, and the floor filled with petals, it felt like he’d gone all out for her.
T-this..
“You might have thought a night out with the town was the real date, but it was a ha**le to bribe Urma out of the she is my family’s best cook to prepare all this, and I hope you’d like it.” He says it quietly.
compound;
“Moons, Kaide, this is amazing,” she calls with a smile. “This is more than enough, and you love it.” She had never gotten anything like this before; she didn’t know how to feel
He walks past her to carefully pull one of the chairs for her to sit down in before they are served their food by Urma, a quiet older wolf, but Elise doesn’t think Unna is too keen on her presence, especially since Alvira is from a family she has served for years.
But as soon as she served them food, she made herself scarce by Kaide’s orders; dinner was delightful, and Kaide was so eager to tell her facts about different territories he’d been researching and stories that Elise had never even heard of.
Their conversation was interrupted when Urma came back to call Kaide at an urgent matter that needed his attention quickly.
“I’m sorry, I just need to approve some things for her Urma to take back to the compound; you can look around if you want,” he offered as he leveled quietly.
But Elise caught the dark look of contempt on Urma’s face before she left with Kaide. Of course, she was on Alvira’s side.
After a while of waiting for Kaide, she decides to take his suggestion into action as she walks around the large bungalow-style cabin. From the elegant portrait painting to the elegantly designed hallways
She heads into another room, his study, thinking she’d meet him there, but she didn’t. She then decides to walk into the study, intrigued by the kind of books that Kaide would have, leaving her intrigued with what she could learn from them.
After a minute of browsing, she could hardly find anything apart from combat and maps. She was about to give up until she sighted a silver-lined book from the driver of her eyes, with a white-marked insignia that read “The Shadows Elise whispered out.
which
She didn’t know why that particular book called out to her as she reached for it, but the minute she did, the door to the study opened, and Kaide peered in with a sigh of relief on his face
“There are, I thought I bored you so much that you left,” he says with a smile that immediately drops when he catches sight of the book in her arm.
“Why don’t we find you another book?” he says in a quick haste as he grabs the book from her, which confuses Elise.
“What’s wrong with this one? I want to read this one,” she argues, her boredom raised in question as to why he won’t allow her to read that particular book.
“It’s just old text I’m trying to transcribe; the pages are old and I’ve not been able to get them back, but I am done. I will give you El,” he answers.
“What is so mystical and mysterious about shadow wolves?” She asks Kaide, whose eyes immediately show surprise.
“Can you read that?” He is stunned. “Have you ever seen these texts before? He asks Elise, who shakes her head.
“No, I haven’t, but I just… knew I could read them,” and now even Elise feels s**ked out as to why it came naturally to her But Kaide had already taken the book and locked it in another cupboard.
“Fascinating” he muttered, his back hunched on the table as his gaze hardened while he was lost in thought. There was now a tense silence that confused Elise.
“Kaide?” Elise calls to him: now she i
she isn’t feeling all too good anymore. “Should I leave? I think I should,” she says.
“What no? No, El. I didn’t mean to act like that He e says he is panicked as he holds her back.
“Yeah, no, I’m just a bit tired, and it will be hectic to be late. I and Vienna have a thing tomorrow, so sit around if you’re busy,” she says to Kaide.
His face softens as he strides closer to her “I’m sorry if 1 reacted weirdly, I’m just…” he calls as he brings her closer until their eyebrows meet. “Stay,” he draws with his hands, caressing her arms.
“It’s alright, really” But then Kaide shut her up with a kiss. Elise’s eyes widened at the abruptness of it, his hands diving to her waist, pulling to her side till her back met the wooden frame of his door.
His other hand tried to pull her nape towards him, and their lips net in a deep sigh. With both their lips moving eagerly, a part of Elise wanted to know how her heart would react to being with another male
If it would feel like fireworks like how it did with Rygan, if it would make her heart shatter and pound for more, so she submitted to his touch.
The kiss was getting heated, with Kaide prodding her lips and asking for more access to be granted. Elise groans out, ready to accept, but the whole illusion is shattered when Elise says something.
“Rygan.” Elise paused in shock as Kaide stiffened when he heard another name. Her eyes were blown wide with mortification at what she had just said.
She had just called another male’s name instead of the beta while kissing Kaide. She had called Rygan’s name!
