Felix could clearly see Lucas emerging from the meeting room, getting into the car as usual. Lucas’s face looked pale, with sweat dripping down his forehead. It seemed like his boss was experiencing some discomfort.
Throughout the journey home, Lucas couldn’t stop massaging his temples. He even asked the driver to take him home immediately.
Felix couldn’t help but wonder what was happening to Lucas. Curious as always, he mustered the courage to inquire, wanting to find out for himself what was going on with his boss.
“Mr. Lucas, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
Lucas took a deep breath, leaning back in his seat. Moments later, he turned his gaze toward Felix.
“I swear, I have a terrible headache. I couldn’t concentrate at all during the meeting.”
Felix blinked, furrowing his brow, and wondered, “Headache? Why, sir?”
Felix grew even more curious. He recalled that they had just attended a very important meeting, and it occurred to him that this might be the reason for his boss’s headache.
“Do you know our client who wears glasses?” Lucas asked suddenly.
“Which one, sir?”
“The slightly bald one,” Lucas replied.
“Oh, the one in the navy suit?”
Lucas nodded.
“Yes, that one.”
“What about him?” Felix inquired, intrigued.
“That’s the guy who gave me a headache. I swear, what perfume was he wearing? It smelled like armpits or something. You have no idea; throughout the meeting, I had to hold back from vomiting. That’s why I look pale like this.”
Felix couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Instead of continuing to worry or feel anxious, he found it amusing. Now he knew what had caused Lucas to act unusually after the meeting.
“There’s no such thing as armpit-scented perfume, sir. Besides, I didn’t notice anything.”
“Maybe your nose is the problem. Seriously, I couldn’t stand the smell of his perfume, or maybe it was his body odor. It was life-threatening. You didn’t see how close I was to dying.”
Laughter once again erupted from Felix’s lips. It was hilarious to see how Lucas described what he had experienced.
“Maybe you’re having cravings,” Felix teased.
Seeing Lucas complain about the smell, feeling lightheaded, and being unable to concentrate at work, for some reason, Felix felt that his boss was suffering from something unusual. And knowing that Lucas’s wife was pregnant, it wasn’t impossible that Lucas was having cravings.
“Huh? Cravings? Impossible. Deasy is the one who’s pregnant. Why would I be the one having cravings?”
“Maybe, Sir. It Possible,” Felix concurred. He then began to explain slowly, “Some husbands, when their wives are pregnant, experience cravings as well. This is often referred to as sympathetic pregnancy or couvade syndrome. The symptoms of the husband’s cravings include both physical and psychological symptoms, similar to what Mr. Lucas has been experiencing recently.”
“Oh, really?”
Felix nodded repeatedly.
“So, sometimes the wife behaves normally, but the husband ends up having severe cravings. Like feeling nauseous, not having an appetite, being sensitive to smells. Some even experience dizziness and fainting.”
“Yeah, what you’re explaining makes sense. I’ve been feeling really weak these past few days. I can’t stand strange smells, and I’ve been dealing with Deasy’s behavior, which has been quite unusual lately,” Lucas complained without hesitation.
“What’s strange about it, sir?”
For the second time, Lucas took a deep breath, raising his shoulders high. He gently massaged his temples while recounting the chronology that had left him feeling puzzled.
“Just so you know, at the beginning of her pregnancy, Deasy never complained about anything. She never felt nauseous, even though she dropped and fainted a few times. I also remember, back when we lived in the apartment, she never asked for anything strange. But now, as her pregnancy progresses, I’m starting to experience the effects of pregnancy.”
Felix displayed a puzzled expression. Furrowing his brow, he continued to question Lucas’s story.
“What do you mean, sir? What’s wrong with Mrs. Deasy?”
“Over time, her behavior has become increasingly unusual.”
“Unusual? How so, sir?”
“She does things that are out of the ordinary. For example, the other day, she came home from work and asked me to buy chicken noodles. But she only wanted the chicken, no noodles. I thought we would eat it later, but as soon as we got home, she just stared at the seasoned chicken and said she was full.”
“Oh my.”
“And it’s not just that. If I ask her something simple, like going up means going upstairs, going down means going downstairs, and going in means going inside, where does going out mean?”
“Where does it mean, sir?”
Lucas shrugged his shoulders.
“How should I know? If I can’t answer, she gets upset and refuses to be hugged. Then there’s something even more absurd. The other day, she asked, ‘Do chickens sleep with their eyes open or closed?’ I swear, I’m not descended from birds, Felix. How should I know if chickens sleep with their eyes open or closed? She asks the strangest and most unusual things before bedtime.”
Felix chuckled. Instead of showing sympathy, he laughed at Lucas’s plight.
“Stay patient, sir. It’s called being pregnant. They say a mother’s mood can change constantly during pregnancy. Maybe Mrs. Deasy is being random because of the baby inside her.”
“Oh, yes!” Lucas quickly agreed. “Even when it comes to watching movies, Deasy’s mood can suddenly plummet, and I’m the target again. Luckily, I love her deeply. Otherwise, I would have left her a long time ago.”
“Mrs. Deasy is pregnant because of Mr. Lucas, right? Well, just accept it, sir. Besides, Mrs. Deasy is only like this during pregnancy. After giving birth, she won’t be like this anymore.”
“If it makes sense, it’s not a problem, actually. But if it’s something weird, it annoys me. You never know, right? Just the other day, after watching an action movie in the cinema, she had cravings for a foreign husband who looks like the guys in the movies. That baby in Deasy’s belly is so rebellious. Why would it want its father to be a blue-collar worker with foreign men? Besides, compared to them, I’m much better looking.”
Felix continued to laugh while holding his stomach. His eyes were watering as he listened to Lucas’s complaints. Perhaps this was part of the joy and hardship of dealing with a pregnant wife. So, one must be patient and understanding.
“Stay patient, sir. After giving birth, it will be Mr. Lucas who misses these random moments. So, enjoy them for now.”
“Yeah, you’re right. That’s why I’m trying to be patient and enjoy it while I can.”
Once they arrived home and entered their room, a few minutes later, Lucas found Deasy, who had just finished taking a shower. Out of nowhere, she hurriedly approached Lucas, who was sitting on the sofa. Without permission, without saying a word, she immediately pulled Lucas’s face and landed a kiss on his lips.
Lucas was taken aback. Unprepared, he accepted the kiss as Deasy demanded it, with passion and a bit of urgency. As soon as he found an opportunity, Lucas, confused, pulled his face back to momentarily pause their kiss.
“Darling, what’s gotten into you?” Lucas asked in confusion.
“Why? I wanted to kiss you, that’s all,” Deasy replied as if she couldn’t bear it when the kiss was suddenly interrupted.
Lucas took a deep breath. Cupping Deasy’s face, he spoke softly.
“Yes, but why all of a sudden? It’s very unusual.”
“Do I need to make an appointment or ask for permission every time I want to kiss you? Or should I submit a proposal first? To make it official?”
Lucas sighed. He moved closer to her, then kissed both of Deasy’s cheeks alternately, then asked again.
“Not like that, darling. I was just surprised that you kissed me out of the blue.”
“So, you’re protesting because I kissed you? Is it weird for me to kiss you? Fine, after this, I won’t kiss you anymore.”
“Hey, don’t,” Lucas exclaimed hastily. Annoyed, this time it was him who reached for Deasy’s neck. He leaned in and placed a gentle kiss tenderness, gently kissing both sides of Deasy’s lips alternately.
Gradually closing her eyes, Deasy, without realizing it, got lost in the tender kiss that Lucas was giving her. She opened her mouth slightly, intentionally giving her husband access to continue kissing, even exploring the depths of her mouth.
After feeling satisfied with what she received, Deasy herself then unraveled the kiss between her and Lucas. Before getting up completely, she hugged her husband for a few moments, then let him go.
“Done?” Lucas asked to confirm. To be honest, he was still a bit puzzled even now.
“Done,” Deasy nodded casually, as if nothing had happened to her.
“You’re quite something.”Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“I’m not weird! It’s what your child wants. Not me. It’s been wanting to be kissed by its Daddy all this time.”
Lucas burst into laughter. Somehow, Deasy had been like this lately. She always used their unborn child as an excuse whenever she wanted something.
“Come on, just say that you want it. If you want to be affectionate, just say it honestly. I’ll grant it right away.”
“Alright, let’s go!”
Instead of rejecting her, Deasy openly invited him. Her face looked relaxed, as if she were deliberately teasing him.
“Sure?”
Deasy nodded.
“100% sure.”
“Okay, I’ll take a shower first.”
Lucas was about to get up, but Deasy hurriedly stopped him.
“Don’t take too long, Luc. Let’s do it now. I want it right now!”
Lucas grinned widely. If Deasy was insisting, why should he refuse? He agreed and granted what Deasy asked for. After all, making love was enjoyable, and he should enjoy it before Deasy gave birth, and he had to fast for a while.
