Chapter 34

That night, Cynthia couldn’t sleep.

Even after exhausting herself in bed, sleep still cluded her. She got up and sat in a rattan chair on the balcony until dawn broke.

She was torn over a choice. Despite everything Lilian had done to hurt her over the years, she never tried to destroy her. After all, she was the one who had pulled Lilian from the depths of hell.

But now, Lilian, I will push you back into hell. Because that’s where you truly belong, she thought.

As dawn began to break, Cynthia picked up her phone and dialed a number. “Mrs. Sheppard? Do you know that Lilian is

back?”

At eight in the morning, the entrance of the TV station was bustling with people. Cynthia’s car was parked nearby.

After a while, she noticed a haggard woman hunched over at the entrance of the station. It was none other than Lilian’s mother, Sarah Sheppard.

Dressed in rags and with unkempt hair, she looked like a beggar. Yet, her cruel eyes gleamed with a greedy light as she watched people entering the station.

Finally, she saw Lilian. Sarah grabbed her arm immediately. “Lilian, it’s really you! You ungrateful girl; how could you not tell us that you’re back?”

At first, Lilian didn’t recognize Sarah. But when she saw her face clearly, terror flooded her eyes. “Mom, what are you doing here?” NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.

Suddenly, Sarah yanked Lilian’s hair and began to punch and kick her. Though Sarah looked like a beggar, she was surprisingly strong. She violently tugged at Lilian’s hair, throwing a tantrum.

“Everyone, come and look! See what an ungrateful daughter I have! I worked hard to raise her, put her through college, and now that she has grown up, she ignores me and her father, finding herself a rich boyfriend to live it up! Her father is bedridden, and she doesn’t care at all. How heartless!” she yelled.

A crowd began to gather. Some recognized Lilian and quickly pulled the two apart.

Sarah, undeterred, lay down on the ground and threw a fit. “My life is so hard! My daughter is so ungrateful! How can she be a host? She doesn’t even care for her own parents! Oh heavens, when I gave birth to her, it was three days and nights of labor. Had I known this, I might as well have drowned her at birth!”

Lilian trembled on the ground. Her fear of Sarah ran deep, leaving her speechless. Fear enveloped her, but her eyes reflected a deep–seated hatred.

Everyone stood around, watching. The sympathy and disdain in their eyes pierced Lilian deeply.

In a fit of hysteria, she shouted, “I don’t know her! She’s crazy. I don’t know her at all!”

Cynthia sat in her car, calmly observing everything. Seeing Lilian tear off her mask and descend into hysteria, she put on her sunglasses indifferently and drove away.

Just two hours later, Cynthia received a call from Filip. “Cynthia, you need to get to the hospital right now!”

“What’s the matter?” Cynthia replied carelessly.

“Lilian is in critical condition. If we can’t save our child, I won’t let you off the hook,” Filip said.

After hanging up the phone, a wave of agitation washed over Cynthia. ‘Lilian’s child is in danger?

She had only informed Sarah about Lilian’s return as a form of payback. Cynthia had never intended for Lilian to have an abortion. She had always believed that the child was innocent.

In the end, Cynthia drove to the hospital. By the time she arrived, Lilian had already been moved from the emergency room to a luxurious VIP ward.

Cynthia approached the door of the room. It was slightly ajar, and she could see everything inside clearly.

Lilian was curled up in Filip’s arms like a frightened rabbit, sobbing, “Only Cynthia knows about my family situation. We don’t even have a television at home, and my mom can’t read or write; she never watches the news. It must have been Cynthia who told her.”

“She knows my mother is like a vampire who manipulated and abused me since I was little. I was nearly killed by her. Now my mother made a scene at the station, and everyone knows my mom is a madwoman. I can’t hold my head up in front of my colleagues anymore,” her voice was trembling.

“Freddie called me, too. He just told me to rest and not to worry about hosting tonight’s show. I worked so hard to get that hosting position. Why would Cynthia do this? She’s so cruel…” Lilian added.

Filip held her tightly, gently comforting her, “It’s okay; you have me. Even if you don’t work, I’ll take care of you for the rest of your life.”

Cynthia knocked on the door. Both of them turned to look at the entrance. Upon seeing Cynthia, Filip’s anger flared. “Cynthia, how dare you actually come here?”

Cynthia remained calm. “I asked the doctor; your child is fine.”

Filip sneered, “You seem disappointed. You won’t be satisfied until you kill our child, you serpent.”

Cynthia’s eyes darkened slightly. “I never intended to harm your child.”

Lilian’s eyes

filled with sadness and innocence. “Did you tell my mother about my situation?”

Cynthia didn’t deny it. “Yes.”

Tears streamed down Lilian’s face. “Cynthia, why did you do this? You know my mother is a devil. Why would you push me into hell? Why would you treat me this way?”

Cynthia replied calmly, “I’m simply repaying in kind.”

Lilian was taken aback. Then she cried, “I know you must think that those posts online were from me. But I didn’t do it; I really didn’t. I would never do something like that. I can swear on the child in my belly…”

“Don’t swear,” Cynthia interrupted her, “I’m afraid your retribution will fall upon your child.”

Lilian’s face turned pale. But Filip could no longer hold back his anger. He stepped forward, raising his hand to slap Cynthia.

Cynthia, however, firmly caught Filip’s wrist, smiling charmingly yet coldly. “Filip, have you forgotten that you could never beat me in a fight since we were kids?”

Filip winced as she gripped his arm tightly. He knew that although Cynthia looked as delicate as a flower, she had been a fighter since her childhood.

“Cynthia, you’re a maniac. The biggest regret of my life is having cared for you, loved you, and spoiled you beyond measure, only to have you turn so malicious,” he said.

Cynthia’s smile deepened. “Did you ever really love me? If you truly did, you wouldn’t have let Lilian provoke you into
