Outside, the wind was ousting, and Candice felt a chill. She attempted to close the window, but Alex objected.
“Keep it open! I can’t bear the smell of alcohol on you.”
Despite being slightly drunk, Candice, adept at discemina Alec’s moods, sensed his anger. NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
She figured that he was probably mad because the smelled like booze. She retreated further into the comer,
Upon reaching Candice’s place, Alex’s phone rang Just as he escorted her into the condo.
Sonia was on the line, inquiring about his arrival, as he had promised to meet her later.
After ending the call as he was about to depart, his fingers were unexpectedly grasped.
Candice sat on the couch, demurely holding onto his fingers. Her intoxication was evident from the strong scent of alcohol and the
reddish tint in the corners of her eyes.
Alex, taken aback, noticed her hand wrapping around his wrist.
Lifting her head, her voice raspy, she remarked, “You haven’t spent time with me in a long time.”
Having said that she rose to her feet and looped her arm around his neck. Leaning forward, she gently pressed her lips against his, aiming to please him.
Upon waking up the next morning. Candice felt her entire body sore.
Rubbing her temples, she headed to the bathroom. Gazing at herself in the full–length mirror, the marks on her body confirmed that the previous night had indeed happened.
Alex had been cautious, leaving no visible marks on her neck, likely to avoid raising Sonia’s suspicions.
Candice’s mishandling of a five–million–dollar deal for her company became widely known.
Julie seized the chance to taunt her.
However, Sonia did not make an appearance. There were whispers of another fallout between her and Alex.
Candice hardly ever saw Sonia in the staff cafeteria. Sonia regularly took Alex out to lunch, except for when she was first hired by the
Sonia walked over to Julie, carrying the meal tray. When she saw Candice, she stopped in her tracks.
Acknowledging their strained relationship, Candice understandingly turned around and left.
Yet Sonia followed and sat across from her, tentatively inquiring. “Do you know where Lex was last night?”
Her question seemed to be a probe into Candice’s knowledge.
Momentarily baffled, Candice replied nonchalantly, “Aren’t you aware of his whereabouts?”
Sonia nervously touched her lips and squeezed the words out, “I was busy last night and don’t know where he was.”
Candice responded coldly, “Hmm, maybe he was busy.”
Sonia quickly finished a few bites of her meal at Candice’s table and left without saying much more.
But by the afternoon, Sonia was back to adoringly following Alex, appearing as though they had never had any disagreements.
She excitedly approached Candice, sharing that Alex wanted her to organize the upcoming company team–building activities scheduled in a few days.
Aether Corporation was known for its generous employee benefits, with annual team–building activities organized by Candice every year.
Candice handed over the nearly complete plan to Sonia, saying, “I’m almost done with it. You can always start over if you don’t think it’s good enough.”
Sonia accepted the file, her smile fading somewhat, and replied, “Okay.”
Candice was too preoccupied with preparing for next week’s business trip to be worried about her thoughts.
Asther Corporation had numerous commercial partners in the province. Alex had to travel on multiple business trips in mid–year.
She wondered if Alex would include her on the trips this year, considering Sonia’s presence in his life.
To her surprise, the next day, Alex confirmed that she should join him on the trip to Noxville.
Surprised, she asked. ‘Is Sonia going?”
Alex did not even glance at her. “What do you th
think?”
Clearly. Sonia would be there, but more as Alex’s girlfriend than as an intern, given her limited knowledge of the Noxville situation.
Candice, on the other hand, was there as his secretary.
