Giving Your Life
Damien walked into the room to find Hazel still crying over Axel.
“Hazel” He called her name but there was no response from her as she seemed to be in her world of tears and nothing else.
“Hazel” He called again before giving up on just calling her name.
“Hazel, you know you are pregnant. Crying this much won’t be a good thing for your health and the health of your baby” he reminded her about her baby and Hazel’s hands subconsciously moved to her stomach and she rubbed on it.
“The father is dead” she cried.
“But you are alive and… And I am alive too. We can still give your pup a good life. You have to think about your health. I understand that you feel hurt, badly hurt that everything was because of Rex and you killed Axel yourself. I know how you feel” he assured but Hazel shook her head in a negative fashion.
“You can never understand it, Alpha Damien. You can’t understand it. When I… When I give birth, who do I day killed the father? I am going to tell my pup that I killed its father?!”
“But you never meant to do it. This is all because of Rex and he is dead now”
“It is because of Rex but it does not change the fact that I killed him! It doesn’t change the fact that Axel is lying here, unable to move a finger because he is dead!”
“I just want to die” she cried.
“Hey, don’t you even think about that” he stopped her.Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“Don’t you think about dying. Axel is already gone, what do you think would happen to the packs if you decide to die too?” Damien asked, moving even closer to her.
“I don’t care! I don’t care anymore” she screamed out and just then the door was pushed open by the old wolf doctor.
“If you are deciding to die, how about it a benefiting way?” He asked and both Damien and Hazel stopped.
“What do you mean?” Hazel asked.
The wolf doctor looked at Damien as if telling him to give them some privacy.
“Alpha Damien, give us some privacy” Hazel hurriedly requested.
“What are you trying to say to her? You are going to convince her to die? In a benefitting way?” Damien asked, obviously not willing to leave the room and leave Hazel with a man who was going to convince her to die.
“I guess I will just take my leave then” the wolf doctor sighed and turned to leave.
“Stop!” Hazel’s voice was firm.
The wolf doctor halted.
Hazel grabbed Damien’s arms and started to pull him out of the room.
“Give me some space. I will tell you what happens if there would be a need to”
“But Hazel….” He could not complete his words as she shut the door and turned back to the wolf doctor.
“What do you mean? There is a way to bring Axel back to life, right?” It was clear that she was desperate to bring him back to life doing anything and everything.
The wolf doctor walked to Axel’s body and touched his body.
“His body is getting really cold” he pointed out.
“There is a way to bring him back?” Hazel asked again, the only question that she was interested in.
The old wolf doctor glanced at her and at her stomach.
“There is a way, a way that I am not sure that anyone would ever choose” he replied.
“I do not care about how dangerous or risky it is. I would go for it as long as it will bring Axel back” she responded with her willingness.
“Firstly, you have to keep his body fresh and prevent it from decaying until the next full moon” he started and walked towards the window, looking out of it into the dark sky.
“The next full moon should be in a week. Keeping his body fresh and away from decay would not be hard to do at all. I will have it done immediately”
“But…” Her voice slowed down as she sniffed back.
“But that cannot be the only thing, right? What would I do on the night of the full moon?”
“You would bring him back to life”
“Bring him back to life… I know that but in what way?” She asked, taking steps forward to get to the window side.
“Then, we will bring out the moonstone to invoke the blessings of the moon goddess”
“That… That’s all? The moon goddess will bless him and wake him up? Is that all?” Her eyes glistened with hope.
“If it was this easy, I would have definitely said it earlier” he replied.
“Then what is the issue? What is the difficult part? Just tell me about it. I will do it all, I am sure”
The wolf doctor hesitated for some seconds and walked away from the window.
“Why are you hesitating this much? Just tell me the requirements”
“Your life” he replied, giving the answer finally.
“My…. My life?” She stuttered out.
“Yes, Hazel Simons.” The wolf doctor turned to face her.
“When we bring out his body in the full moon with the moon stone by his side. The next thing we would be needing would be the blood of the one blessed by the Moon Goddess and that is you, Hazel. You have been blessed personally by the moon goddess. In the entire wolf world, there is only you and Axel blessed personally by the Moon goddess. To wake him up, you have to give up your blood” he paused and studied her countenance.
“Is… Is there any chance that… That I might survive?” Hazel asked.
“Perhaps a 0. 1 chance if that could be referred to as a chance of survival.”
“I will be frank with you, Hazel. Once you go for this, you… Will die but Axel would come back to life. That is the only way to bring Axel back to life”
“Now, the question is, are you willing to give your life up to bring Axel back to life?”
