Chapter 90 The Surgical Situation
The surgery took a long time, and Alicia filled her stomach obediently with the bread brought by Edmond. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Edmond let Alicia lean on his should for a little nap, but she was too stressed to fall asleep.
It was the moment when one mind was full of thoughts and could not relax to fall asleep, and neither did she feel like browsing her phone to take her mind off.
After a long time, the sky darkened, and they waited on the bench from morning to night.
Alicia immediately looked up when the light on the operating room door went off.
The door slowly opened, and the doctor and nurse exited from it.
"They are out," Edmond spoke beside Alicia.
Alicia stood up hurriedly and anxiously. When she was to walk up and ask about the situation, her vision suddenly went black, and her whole head became dizzy as she lost her balance.
"Licia!" Edmond called out in panic.
*
It was already one in the morning that Alicia was finally awake.
Edmond was sitting on the edge of her bed. His eyes were bloodshot, his shirt's top two buttons were undone, his clothes and hair were slightly messy, and he emitted an aura of exhaustion.
Upon seeing Alicia open her eyes, he immediately leaned over to examine her.
"How are you feeling?" Edmond asked in a hoarse and gentle voice.
The first thing that Alicia asked him as soon as she regained consciousness was about her mother's condition, "How is my mother?"
Alicia was genuinely scared, and seeing Edmond's exhaustion overwhelmed her with heaviness.
Edmond was relieved to see that Alicia could speak as he let out a sigh of relief.
"The surgery is over, but she is still in a coma. It will be considered a success if she manages to wake up in the morning." Edmond explained the situation.
She nodded and anxiously wanted to get out of bed.
"Let me go and look at her," Alicia asked.
"At least have some food first. You had just passed out from low blood sugar, and you shouldn't go on with an empty stomach anymore." Edmond stopped her and warned.
Alicia ignored him and lifted the covers, and got out of bed. She staggered on her way to visit her mother, and if it were not for Edmond supporting her, she would already collapse onto the floor.
Luckily, Melissa's ward was just next to hers.
After the surgery, Melissa's head was wrapped with bandages, her face was pale, and the heart rate monitor beside the bed showed a steady heartbeat.
Alicia stood at the side and stared at Melissa for a long while without saying anything. Then suddenly, she covered her mouth with her hand as tears began to well up in her eyes.
Edmond reached out and wrapped Alicia in his arms.
"Just cry it all out as you want. You'll feel much better afterward." Edmond coaxed.
Alicia pressed her face onto his chest, and his clothes were stained with the smell of tobacco. It seemed that when she was unconscious, Edmond had smoked a lot.
Alicia shed her tears silently without making any sound.
She was so quiet and well-behaved that it was very heartbreaking for Edmond.
Looking at Alicia being like this, Edmond could not help but tighten his hug around her.
In fact, not only was Alicia nervous, even Edmond was on the edge too.
However, he could not show it, and he had to consider Alicia's emotions and try to reduce her nervousness and worries.
"Edmond," Alicia called out his name.
"Yes? I'm here," Edmond replied.
"It turns out that Heaven has always been in care for me," Alicia said.
The choking voice from Alicia was heartbreaking, and Edmond could not stand her aggrieved looks as his heart softened upon listening. He wanted to get all the best things in the world and present them to this woman before him just to gain a smile from her.
"I used to complain that Heaven was mean and did not give me a complete life. However, now that I realize that as long as those I cared about are well, it is already a huge blessing." Alicia explained.
"The blessing will continue for your future as well," Edmond added.
Alicia sniffled and asked abruptly, "Do you think I'm overly pretentious? I've said to you too many of those emotional speeches today."
For the last few days, she had been so depressed that she always blurted out lots of emotional speeches when she broke down.
If it were her usual self, she would have laughed at herself for being too pretentious and forbidden herself from saying anything further.
However, she spilled everything out when standing before Edmond right now.
Edmond rested his chin on Alicia's head while his hand patted her slowly as if trying to coax a child to sleep. His voice was soft and gentle, but the words he said were so annoying.
"I'd like it better if you used this pretentiousness of yours on the bed instead," Edmond suggested cheekily.
