Chapter 128 – Jarod’s weird comfort
Cayden
I looked again to see if my eyes were deceiving me.
No, they weren’t.
Jarod was really standing right before me with a confused look on his face. I instantly looked away from him because I didn’t want him to see how sad and vulnerable I really was.
He started walking towards me and I shook my head repeatedly, trying to tell him not to come any closer, but he ignored me.
He came to me and without me telling him anything, he sat down beside me and he didn’t say a word to me.
I wasn’t interested in talking to him, so I just continued observing the silence between us. He also noticed that I didn’t want to talk because he didn’t break the silence.
A few minutes later, I stole a glance at him and I was finally ready to talk to him since he wasn’t ready to leave.
“You…” The both of us said at the same time and we started laughing like two crazy men. Well, I guess we are actually crazy.
“What happened?” He asked a few seconds later and my laughter instantly wiped away. Remembering the look that way in Lily’s face when she left only made me sad.
“Well, I don’t know man. I really don’t.” I said to him and I sighed loudly. I really wanted to tell him everything that happened, but I didn’t know why I was feeling like he didn’t have to know.
I mean, we’ve never really seen eye-to-eye, so me feeling him my problems now just seemed…weird.
“You don’t?” He said and he eyed me suspiciously.
“Well, I do, but I don’t feel the need to tell you.” I said and I shrugged casually.
“What in heaven’s name is wrong with you? You know, I used to think that me hating you was just something that I was going to get over, but today, I’m sure that I actually do hate you. You did something wrong and now, you’re here feeling like God knows what about it and you still don’t want to tell me? You’re a joke, man.” Jarod screamed at me and I finally realised that his visitation was not one of comfort, but one of confrontation.
I suddenly felt like he knew what happened, even more than what I knew and I wanted to ask him about it, but I didn’t know how to.
“I am not happy with the way you’re here, acting like you’re one innocent man. You shouldn’t be here to be honest.” He said and I could still hear the anger in his voice.
He didn’t want me to come here? But why? I didn’t do anything to him, did I? The only person that was supposed to act this way was Lily and not Jarod. Which means that he actually knows something that I don’t.
“What do you mean?” I asked him and he looked at me before facing forward.
“An hour or so ago, Lily came in here crying like she had lost somebody. I saw her and I ran to her, asking her what was wrong. At first, she didn’t want to talk to me, just like you didn’t want to talk to me too, but after a while, she opened up to me that you were the cause of…her tears. After telling me, she ran out of the shop and when I was about to follow her, she told me not to.” He said and he swallowed.
Wow, Lily really did that?
God, I hate myself right now for hurting someone that’s as innocent as Lily.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
“What happened? I really need to know before I punch you in the face right now.” He yelled and guilt instantly overwhelmed me.
Jarod wasn’t wrong in any way. I really deserved a punch for hurting Lily.
I sighed and I decided to tell him everything. I mean, he already knows more than half of the story anyway.
I told him everything that happened. From the pregnant woman that tries pinning the responsibility of her pregnancy on me, to the way Lily ran out of the house and everything that happened afterwards.
However, I didn’t tell him about how Lily and I had one of the best nights of our lives before the woman came and destroyed everything.
“What the hell? Wow.” Jarod seemed really surprised and shocked.
“So, you actually have a wife? And not just a wife, one that’s pregnant? That’s really crazy. You’re a crazy man.” He said and a huge frown settled on my face.
Jarod didn’t believe me too?
“She’s not my wife, bro. I don’t even know her at all. I’m serious.” I said and I really hoped he believed me because I was starting to even doubt myself.
“Okay, okay.” He said and I wasn’t sure if he actually believed me, but he said okay. That’s enough, right?
“Jarod, I really need some advice concerning this to be honest. I’m confused and I also need to see Lily. I know that you didn’t tell me the full story about how she left. I know she told you where she went.” I said to Jarod and he shifted uncomfortably in his spot.
“Look, man. I actually understand what you’re saying, I really do. The issue is crazy and painful. If I was in your shoes, I wouldn’t have known what to do.” He said and I was a little bit relieved that I was getting closer to him, so he would be able to tell me about Lily.
“Thanks for understanding. I need you to help me to lure Lily out of where she’s hiding. Please. I pleaded with Jarod, but he refused. He told me that he couldn’t risk the friendship that he had suffered to get back. I started begging him with my life and after a while, he finally agreed to tell me where she was.
I was so relieved and I asked Jarod what I should do first, to make everything okay again.
