I Refuse to Divorce

Chapter 30

Chapter 30

Zoe came to her senses and realized they were at the crossroads. They stopped in front of a traffic light. Pulling her hand away from Mason’s, she turned her face to the window and said coldly, “It was nothing!”

He looked at her dejected face and felt a little disheartened. Images of the past coursed through his mind. He had married Zoe when she was just a twenty-year-old girl. She loved him deeply back then.

She would rush downstairs and take his briefcase from him when he came back home from work. She would try to please him, tell him about what was on for dinner, and prepare the bathtub for him.

He had always made a point to hurt her when they had sex. Slowly but surely, Zoe began to smile less frequently. She also stopped acting cute around him.

It seemed that she had finally accepted the fact that he did not love her. None of her efforts meant anything to him. All she ever got in return was his cold shoulder.

She was still thoughtful, but she was merely doing her duty as a wife. She was just going through the motions.

It was like she said when she was drunk. In fact, she had stopped loving him a long time ago.

Thinking about these memories renewed his anger again. He turned his eyes to the road and refused to talk to her again. The traffic light turned green and the black Bentley edged forward.

Placing her hand on the window, Zoe gawked at the upscale French restaurant by the roadside. It was out of business. She had just performed here when it first opened a few days ago. Then, she met both Cecil and Mason… With that, she turned her head slowly and stared at him.

That was why he insisted on sending her home.

She said softly, “Is this what you want me to see, Mason?” He focused on driving and ignored her. The car did not stop until they had reached her place.

Mason turned and looked at her. “Do you know who owned that restaurant?”

Zoe had guessed it, but she did not say it out loud. He grunted and leaned on his seat. “I don’t know what game Cecil was playing, helping you in that manner. However, you’d do well to remember that you’re still my wife.”

She smiled faintly. It was not hard to guess what was on his mind. It was not like Mason was hiding his intentions.

It was a man’s inherent flaw. He did not love his wife, but that did not give other guys a free pass to have a go at her. He could not even tolerate other guys fantasizing about her.

She did not want to give in to him, but she didnot want to get Cecil involved in their feud either.

She said lightly after some thought, “He has nothing to do with our marriage! Don’t do anything to him, Mason.” NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.

He locked gazes with her and touched her cheeks softly after a brief pause, “I trust you, honey!” The sarcasm in his tone was unmistakable.

Zoe felt humiliated and turned her face away, “I’m not your honey!”

Mason fixed his eyes on her for several seconds. Pulling back his hand, he sat upright and said in a serious tone that she had never heard before, “Suppose you were given a choice to do it all over again, Zoe. Would you have picked Cecil or me?”

Zoe was stunned. She had never thought Mason would ask her this sort of question. Be that as it may, he was not really interested in her answer. He leaned in and opened the car door for her. “Get

out.”

She had barely gotten out of the car when he stepped on the gas and drove off into the night. Zoe stood there in the dark. It was cold. Tugging her shirt, she cast her mind back to the question Mason asked her.

“Suppose you were given a choice to do it all over again, Zoe. Would you have picked Cecil or me?”

Zoe lowered her gaze and smiled faintly. She would have chosen the man she loved back when she was young. It would not have mattered what it would cost her. Now, however, she might choose to love herself.

However, it was too late to talk about any of that now.
