Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 611

Chapter 611

Linda finally managed to calm down. She blinked her eyes open, but her vision was still blurry, leaving Chloe's face a hazy mystery. Chloe stared at Linda, feeling completely adrift. An hour had slipped by since the chaos erupted, yet her mind was still a foggy mess. So many questions buzzed around her head.

Why had someone decided to fire a gun at the wedding? The shooter had clearly aimed for her. And why on earth did Linda, who had always been her nemesis-sabotaging her, smearing her name, and vying for everything she had-throw herself into harm's way to protect her? Chloe was convinced their mutual hatred was set in stone. Every encounter between them was a dance of fake smiles and hidden daggers. But then, why? Why did Linda rush over and take that bullet without a second thought? Why would she risk her life to save her? Chloe was torn apart by the contradiction, half-thinking Linda was absolutely bonkers. But seeing Linda now, struggling for every breath, Chloe felt a deep, indescribable ache. The surgery dragged on, the wound was a ghastly sight. Chloe could barely bring herself to look. Linda was panicking, her voice a constant murmur, "How is my baby?" The baby was delivered soon after, and the nurse expertly snipped the umbilical cord. But silence followed-the baby didn't cry. Chloe glanced at the tiny bundle, noting the purple-tinged skin, the closed eyes, the stillness. Linda, in her daze, seemed to sense that something was horribly wrong, "Why isn't the baby crying? Is my baby okay?" A nurse was already working tirelessly to revive the infant, tapping its feet, turning it over, patting its tiny bottom. Still, no sound.

The baby lay limp, like a soft,

unmoving doll, Worry etched deeper into everyone's faces. The water had broken too early, depriving the baby of oxygen in the womb. And with the mother wounded, odds weren't in their favor. Yet, the nurse refused to give up, trying every trick in the book.

Linda strained to catch a glimpse, ignoring the pain. A nearby nurse urged, "Ms. Linda, please keep still, we can't stitch you up if you move But Linda was overcome by dizziness, her vision fading. Just then, a nurse called out, "She's hemorrhaging, start resuscitation!"

The operating room was a whirlwind of chaos. More medical staff poured in. Linda never got to see her baby before she fainted, her eyes losing focus, her grip on Chloe's hand slackening. Chloe found herself pushed out by the nurses.

The team scrambled to save Linda.

Meanwhile, the baby lay quiet, unresponsive.

The nurse, frantic, kept coaxing, "Come on, cry! Just one cry!" Chloe had never felt such dizziness, the scenes before her eyes overlaid and shifted, shadows flickered everywhere. Sound collided in her ears-voices, machine beeps, all merging into a cacophony.

She stood there, frozen, her limbs icy. Chloe didn't know what was going through her mind. Perhaps, in that moment, she wasn't thinking at all.
