Denied by Destiny: Trapped in the Shadows of the Mate Bond

Chapter 72

Hector POV

1 month later

I'm staring at the same map that I have stared at for the past month. Hoping that something will suddenly come to me, or, the map will magically make something jump out.

Where was she...

I had searched every neighbouring pack, every local human town and city...she can't have just disappeared. Someone must know where she is..

I was torn...

I had warriors watching the Amber Desert pack's movements daily...tasked with ensuring the marking ceremony didn't take place. Which it hasn't yet. I had Alpha Damon's promise that nothing would happen until he approved it. They weren't in a position to risk a war with my pack and my alliance packs.

Guilt ate away at me daily mixing with the constant feg of concern for Kaia's safety.

Where was she...

Alpha Jude and Ezra's brother, Beta Edmund, had been assisting with my search. Jude was the only person that knew of my failed mate connection with Alora and how she drank wolfsbane. He was there for me when I didn't want to keep living. Jude suggested spreading the search wider, that she may have travelled for sanctuary in a pack further

away.

The map in front of me was of the entire country...pack lands highlighted only to be crossed off if a search had taken place and ended up being unsuccessful.

Something was festering inside of me, like an infection. I couldn't understand it but all I knew is my wolf and I missed Kaia, that we wanted to find her. To make amends.

In trying to search for her, I realised I didn't actually know a lot about Kaia. Her details before joining the Amber Desert pack were hard to source, something that Ezra was assisting me with.

For some reason she had a shady past and it concerned me even more to think she may be in trouble.

A knock on the door brings me out of my tranced like stare at the map, Riley and Rosa entering together.

Riley starts to talk about something but I'm struggling to concentrate..all I can concentrate is on Rosa's fretful face as she bites on her lower lip looking at the map on the wall.

"Rosa?" I call out to her, something was troubling her. I could feel it through the pack bond with her.

"Are you looking for Kaia still?" Her eyes are wide, as she takes in the red crosses on the map and notes scrawled next to the possible search areas.

"Yes."

""You don't think she went back?"

"Back where?"

"To her ex husband.."

""No, absolutely not."

"Good." She nods to herself, a deep breath leaving her that she had been holding in...her shoulders start to relax. She has pigued my interest, my wolf is on full alert for key detail. "Why do you say that?" I lean forward in my chair, keen for more detail.

"No reason." She shrugs before turning to offer a small smile, Riley clearing his throat to gain my full

attention.

I let it pass for now, but I know she is keeping something from me.

I couldn't get Rosa's questions out of my head.

Since when did Kaia confide about Than to my pack members. Surely she would have told me especially if it involved Than and Alora.

But I couldn't let it rest.

It was now evening and I knew I couldn't sleep unless I asked. I didn't want to communicate through the pack bond with Rosa...I needed to see her facial expressions with each answer.

It would tell me a lot more than the actual words she was speaking.

I knock on front door of Riley's and Rosa's family home, their mother answering it and inviting me in.

"Alpha, what a surprise... What can we do for you?" Their father comes up to me and shakes my hand... offering me a place at their dinner table.

Rosa sitting at the table already, a place set for Riley but he will be on patrol watch for another 30 minutes.

"I won't keep you, I need a private word with Rosa."

"Of course, we will give you some privacy." Both parents exit for the kitchen, leaving Rosa and I alone.

I take my time to approach the table, not wanting to put Rosa on edge.

"Rosa, I need your help. I need you to tell me anything Kaia may have told you. It might help me to find her."

"I'm sorry Alpha I don't know where she may be, if I did I would have offered that up by now."

"I understand. You seemed perturbed earlier that she may have gone back to her ex husband...why is that?"

"She came to see me after...you know....she told me I would learn to live again. That I would find someone else...that I had to keep living. I was in a state of shock, everyone said the same thing but she understood...she knew what I had been through." 2/3

She pauses to look up at me, a frown on her face for sharing this with me. For sharing what Kaia had said.

"Rosa, I won't repeat what you tell me...but it could be vital in helping to find her. I'm worried about her safety..."

"When I found out she was pregnant...I just couldn't belleve how strong she was. That not only could she survive that...but that she was willing to love the child. That she saw the child as an innocent. I wouldn't want her to go back to him, not knowing what he did." "Why what did he do?"

Rosa becomes uncomfortable, I don't want to apply the Alpha command but I will. Thankfully she understands how imperative her information might just well be.

"She never said it, but to understand what I was going through...she must have gone through the same thing..." Ebony Woods
