Dear Contract Wife, You Are Mine

Chapter 38

Maybelline Walter POV

“How are you feeling? Are you ok?” Miles held my hand and patted my hair with worries written all over me, but I only nodded. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him about what happened. I had no idea how to go about it.

“Do you want to eat anything?” He squeezed my hand gently.

“No, I’m fine,” I slowly shook my head, and he nodded.

An awkward silence assumed the atmosphere. I placed my hand on my stomach, worried about my child. I wished I could see the doctor and probably had a chance to ask him if my baby was fine, but I couldn’t.

“I’ll be back shortly. Get some rest,” He stood up from the bed and left. A few minutes later, fortunately, the doctor walked inside and I was glad that it wasn’t Miguel since it was their hospital I was brought to.

“How are you feeling now?” He came to stand beside the bed I was lying on, and examined me briefly.

“I’m fine. How is my baby, doc? Is he fine?” I asked worriedly as I sat up on the bed. He looked at me and smiled.

“You have nothing to worry about. Your baby is fine,” I breathed out in relief.

“You should get some rest. You will be discharged tonight,” He said to me before he left.

As much as I tried not to think about what happened earlier, I couldn’t help myself. It hurts. It hurts to know that I was an unwanted child, it hurt even more that my Mom was not here to meet the scumbag she got pregnant for.

“Don’t think about it, May… It’s not worth it,” I breathed out.

The door burst open and Lily barged inside looking all worried.

“My love… What happened to you?” She whined as she sat on the bed and held my hand.

“I’m fine. I just passed out,” I forced a smile, and she scoffed.

“Something happened, right? You are lying to me, right?” It was so hard to still lie to her with her eyes piercing into mine as if she was going to see through me, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth. I wasn’t ready for that yet.

“I’m fine,”

“That’s a relief…” She breathed out and closed her eyes briefly.

“What did the doctor say? Is the baby fine?” She asked worriedly, and I nodded.

“That’s a relief. You should stop stressing yourself. I don’t want anything happening to my godchild. I will be mad at you if you dare stress him,” She pointed her finger at me, and I rolled my eyes.

“Where is your husband?” She asked after she looked around.

“He just went outside to get something,” I replied to her weakly but regretted my reply seeing the dramatic smile on her face. Of course, I knew what she was going to say next.

“Now, you finally address him as your husband,” She cupped her cheeks in her palms and blushed.

“You are crazy,”

“Whatever! I need to go, baby. See you later,” She stood up then leaned close and kissed my hair.

“See ya,” And with that, she waved at me and dashed out of the ward.

I breathed out and closed my eyes, drifting back into thoughts yet again. It was hard not to think about it. I mean, how the fuck did I turn out to be a trillionaire’s daughter for goodness sake? How did my life take another turn so swiftly? Yes, it was supposed to be something I should be happy about yet I didn’t feel anything.

My thoughts were disrupted the moment Miles walked inside with a cup of steamy tea.

“You should take this,” He sat in front of me on the bed and handed me the mug.

“Thank you,” I collected the tea from him and waited a few seconds before I took a brief sip.

“What happened, May?” He asked out of the blue moon after he carefully dropped the mug on the table.

“It’s fine if you don’t want to talk about it… It’s just that I’m worried about you. I didn’t like the way I found you… You can talk to me, May,” He held my hand and looked into my eyes

“What happened?” He further asked as he squeezed my hand gently, and I bit my lip. Was I supposed to tell him such a shameful thing? That I just found out about my Dad who never wanted me? That I finally met the man who left my mom when she needed her the most even at the point of her death?

“Nothing… I was just stressed,” I tried to cover my pain with a fake and forced smile which I was sure he could see through. I knew I couldn’t deceive even a naive person with the fake expression, but I was hoping he’d let it go without questioning me even though he didn’t believe what I said.

“Hmm,” I was glad when he nodded and smiled at me.

“You can always talk to me if you need anyone to rely on, ok?” He cupped my cheek in his palm, and I nodded.

“The doctor said you’ll be discharged tonight. I will stay with you until then,” I was glad at least someone would be with me. I was glad that I wouldn’t be alone now that I needed someone the most. I was the happiest person that Miles was there for me.

“I want to sleep,” I whispered as I lay on the bed. I was going to sleep like that even though I wasn’t comfortable on the bed.

“Come here,” He made me rest my head on his thighs and I felt warm and comfortable.

“You can sleep all you want,” He patted my shoulder slowly and my eyes felt heavy. I was so stressed and couldn’t wait to get some sleep that I didn’t bother and just gave in when I finally felt like it.

It was dark outside when I woke up and I realized that I was alone in the ward.

“Where is he?” I muttered as I sat up on the bed tiredly yet feeling much better than I was earlier.

Just then, the door opened and Miles walked inside with a few papers in his hand.

“You are awake?” He paused and smiled at me.

“Did you sleep well? How are you feeling now?” He came to sit in front of me on the bed.

“Hmm,” I just hummed and nodded.

“Your discharge papers have been processed and are ready now. We can go tomorrow if you don’t feel like it today,” He placed the back of his palm on my forehead to feel my temperature.

“It’s fine. I want to go home,”

“Alright then. You should change your dress. I packed everything up already,” He stood up from the bed then walked over to the sofa where a gown was lying, and picked it up.

“Whose dress is that? I don’t remember having that in my closet,” I was stunned when I saw the short white gown he was holding.

“I asked Lily to pick it up from the nearest mall. I couldn’t go home to get your dress and the ones you wore earlier were messed up,”

I mouthed an ‘oh’ as I stood from the bed.

I changed into the dress in the restroom and we left the hospital afterward.

“Do you want me to make dinner for you or do you want takeout?” He asked me on our way back home.

“I’m craving noodles,”

“I will make that for you when we get home,”

“Hmm,”

We soon arrived home, and he pulled over at the parking lot.

“Hold on,” He held my hand when I intended to remove my seatbelt. My heart fluttered when he gently helped undo my seatbelt. Fuck! He didn’t have to do that, right? I mean, that wasn’t difficult to do.

“The doctor said you should rest, so allow me to do it for you,” He stated before he stepped out of the car.Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

“That was…” I paused and shook my head. I held the door in a bid to open it, but he opened it from outside and held out his hand to me.

“Thank you,” I smiled at him awkwardly as I took his hand and he helped me out of the car.

“Can you walk? Do you want me to carry you?” I almost cringed at his words.

“I’m fine… I can walk,” I forced a smile because he was fucking creeping me out.

“You should get some rest while I go make you something to eat. You can leave it if you don’t have the strength to shower tonight. You can do that tomorrow,” He uttered after he led me into the room.

“Hmm,” I sat on the bed tiredly.

“The noodles… Do you want it spicy or…”

“Spicy… Make it extra spicy,” I wanted something that’d make me shed tears. Something that’d remind me of my existence and I guess spicy noodles would do just that.

“Alright. I’ll be back,” I breathed out after he left.

I reached out for my phone and unlocked it.

‘Let’s go for a DNA test’ I texted Mr Williams before I could hold myself back. I shouldn’t be so grieved about this yet. I mean, how can I just believe him like that when we haven’t confirmed it yet?
