Chapter 26
Chapter 26
"Babe, had breakfast? Want some?" Lucy put a box of toast on the desk.
"I'm not in the mood!" Kylah flung the cushion onto the couch and put her hands on her hips. "Lucy, Lucy Morgan. Your family is going to be the death of me!"
Lucy's eyes dimmed. "Scaring them didn't work?"
Sometimes, she even suspected that she was adopted. Otherwise, why would her family treat her that way?
"No!" Kylah sat on the couch and punched the cushion irritably. "I couldn't scare them in time, and they showed up at my house!"
Lucy frowned, sat down on her office chair, and took out a bank check. "I'll return the money they borrowed from you!"
"It's not about the money! Lucy, I'm warning you. If you still think of me as a friend, don't drag money into this!" Kylah kicked her heels off and sat cross-legged on the couch. "I'm pissed off because of the things your family said! They were just too shameless!"
They had actually dared to say something like, "Lucy died just like that. She didn't care about us at all. It was a waste of time raising her for so many years! She was nothing but a parasite!"
Was that how family was supposed to speak of one another?
"... They've always been like this. I'm already used to it." Lucy placed the bank check down and
massaged her forehead. Troubling matters were piling up one after another, and she was about to collapse from the pressure.
Seeing Lucy that way, Kylah tossed the cushion aside and said glumly, "Alright, alright, let's not talk about these things! How did it go with Maddox last night? Did he confess his feelings?"
"No." Lucy leaned back on the chair and quickly clarified herself, "I don't see Maddox in that kind of way. Stop trying to matchmake us!"
"Why can't I matchmake you two? Lucy, tell me honestly. Do you still have feelings for Arthur?" Kylah walked to her and hopped onto the desk, staring down at Lucy.
"I..."
"Don't move! What happened to your face?"
Kylah tilted Lucy's face to hers. When she saw the red swelling on Lucy's cheek, she clenched her jaw hard.
Lucy turned her face away and covered the swelling with her hair naturally. "Nothing."
"You obviously got slapped. How could you still tell me it's nothing?!" Kylah raised her voice. "Who slapped you?"
"It really is nothing. Don't interfere. I can deal with my own matters." Kylah had a hot temper, and Lucy was afraid that she might cause trouble.
Kylah jabbed a finger at her, but even after a long time, no words came. Then, she grabbed her handbag and left the office furiously.

Lucy knew Kylah's temper well, so she let her go.
Kylah didn't know who had slapped her anyway, so she wasn't worried that Kylah would barge into Lizbeth's house with a knife!
...
Kylah was so angry that she didn't even respond when the receptionist, Diane, spoke to her. Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
The more she thought about it, the more furious she felt. She drove right up to Johnson Group.
Five years had gone by, and Lucy had been safe and sound. However, the moment Arthur showed up, Lucy had gotten slapped. It definitely had something to do with Arthur!
"Miss, did you make an appointment?" asked the receptionist politely.
Kylah plopped her limited edition handbag on the desk and said fiercely, "I'm Kylah Figueroa! Tell Arthur I want to see him!"
The receptionist glanced at the handbag and didn't dare to provoke Kylah, who was decked out in
branded goods. She called Arthur's secretary to report the situation.
Soon, Arthur's assistant came down through the CEO's exclusive elevator and said, "Miss Figueroa, the CEO is waiting for you upstairs."
Kylah snorted loudly at him and got into the exclusive elevator.
Behind her, the assistant touched his nose glumly. He was just an innocent bystander, but he got caught in the crossfire!
"Arthur, you must give me an explanation today!" Kylah yelled angrily as soon as she entered the CEO's office.
Arthur was standing in front of the large windows. Hearing the noise, he turned around to look at her and said coldly, "What explanation?"
If she wasn't Lucy's best friend, she would have been dealt with long ago because of that attitude of hers.
Looking into his eyes, Kylah subconsciously took a step back. She felt fear creep over her.
However, when she thought of how Lucy had gotten slapped, rage won over logic. "What's with Lucy getting slapped in the face? Don't tell me you don't know!"
"So what if I do know?" Thinking of how Kylah had lied to him for five years, he laughed coldly and his eyes darkened. "Kylah, how daring of you to lie to me!"
Kylah's hands hung by her sides, her fingers trembling. Fear and fury warred against each other in her chest. "Lucy lived happily for five years, but just one day after she met you, she got slapped. Why would I still tell you she was alive? Are you worthy of knowing?"
"It seems like you did not heed my warning!" Arthur sneered and said to his assistant, "Tell Mr. Burke to fire Zaiden Lee!"
"It seems like you did not heed my warning!" Arthur sneered and said to his assistant, "Tell Mr. Burke to fire Zaiden Lee!"
"Wait! Arthur, what's the meaning of this?!" Her parents were already unsatisfied with Zaiden. If he lost his job, her parents would force them to break up!
Kylah hated the way Arthur threatened others, but she had to admit that it was way more effective than anything else.
Arthur in his office chair and crossed his slender legs. He said coldly, "You said something you shouldn't have."
"I'm just stating the facts. Am I wrong? Lucy didn't provoke you or do anything bad to you. Arthur, just treat it as an act of kindness and let Lucy go, will you?" Kylah's words came from her heart.
Arthur's gaze was icy. "If you don't want your boyfriend to lose his job, then it's best if you don't interfere with Lucy's business!"
Kylah glared at him fiercely. She had so many insults at the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't say them aloud. She gritted her teeth hard and suppressed the urge to curse at him, then turned around and left.
"Did I say you could leave?" He had something to confirm with her.
Kylah turned around with a stormy look on her face. "Is there anything else, Mr. Johnson?"
What else could she do other than play along with him?
"What's going on between Maddox and Lucy?" Arthur placed his hands on his desk and fixed his gaze on her. His muscles were tense.
"Oh, so that's what you wanted to ask!" Kylah said in a strange tone, "What a great question! In the five years you were gone, Lucy and Maddox have already planned to get married! Oh, they've been discussing the wedding date recently!"
She only wanted one thing, which was to piss Arthur off!
"Do you know what consequences lying will bring?!" Arthur tapped his slender fingers against the armrests, the veins on the back of his hand popping up.
"What would I get out of lying to you?" Kylah snorted.
The office fell into pin drop silence and the atmosphere was tense.
Arthur lowered his gaze and his thick eyelashes hid the look in his eyes. Even so, he still gave off a terrifying aura.
The assistant quietly took a few steps towards the door to stay away from the eye of the storm.
"Mr. Johnson, since you're done asking, can I leave now?" Seeing him in a rage, Kylah felt very pleased.
